Shopping List.....
Hypothetical: you work for a motor factors, and get an EPIC staff discount on parts, but you are leaving soon. Arrow What parts do you order and store/shelf for your Defender….

(No Genuine JLR parts, tyres or wheels, but Bosch, TRW, Nissens, Pierburg, Borg&Beck NGK/NTK, Lucas, Febi, BluePrint, LuK, FAG, INA and others are! Cool ) Zaid-M

All brake parts. Including master cylinder, and servo.

Obviously filters, and LOTS of the oils.

Starter, and alternator.

You could go for basic stuff, wheel bearings, wipers, serpentine belt, but they aren’t that expensive anyway.

I'd get a crateful of VCVs, not just one! Plus, if running stock a driveline, a couple of front differentials and a rear, and several sets of rear halfshafts and drive members. At least one set of injectors, a vacuum pump, about a dozen bonnet switches. Not forgetting a lot of absorbent cloths for dealing with water ingress.

A few dozen intercooler hoses would last you 2 or 3 months as well!

Thanks all - Does my 2.2 have a VCV ?
If so can somebody please supply a part number and description...
Since we do keep Denso it can be Smile

Pierburg EGR in stock and booked out to me along with a set of pads and fitting kit, Wheel bearings on order (SKF).

A number of componets like injectors, alternators and starter motors are on exchange with a surcharge, the "used core" goes back to be refurbished /overhauled. For a lot of our customers this is not an issue since they are fitting the part within 24-48 hours so the used core comes back quite rapidly. Upwards of 20 calipers, 5 drive shafts form various makes and types per day! Zaid-M

Your 2.2 does have a vcv, however i have not read any posts about it failing, let alone failing as frequently as on the 2.4. So you could get one if cheap, but you may never need to use it.

Part 4 on the diagram https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-r...mp_2.2tdci

I would add a Nissens coolant radiator to the list, they do fail and the nissens one is better and far cheaper than the LR one.

Good move on the pierburg egr as they actually make the Ford / LR one and include the gaskets.

Your intercooler will go at some point, but best once and for all replacement would be from BAS, so not worth buying a std crimped seam one.

How about ignition switch ?

You sure this is not your Christmas list to Santa Smile

The bulb for illuminating the hazard switch. They fail and many people don't even know there's meant to be one.

Again many thanks all Thumbs Up

IanH - good shout with the Nissens - I'll see if its a stock item or order in. Intercooler - was thinking BAS or Alisport.

BlackWolf - funny you say that, replaced mine over the summer: they are tiny bulbes with a silly fixture/holder, have considered using a 12v 3mm red LED as a alternative to the bulb and cover.

Is this a Christmas list - only if the elves deliver before the 25th of this month, last day in the job. Zaid-M

I’ll add another to the list that worked out well for me.

Borg & Beck Waterpump for the 2.4, interchangeable with the Transit 2.4.

Which also includes manifold and I’ve been really pleased with.
Cost about £80 at the time, vs LR @ £360 or there abouts.

Been running it for a good few years now and it’s been perfect, the LR one was leaking at the gasket. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Got to ask but why 4 wipers? Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

Since I have already 2 spare blades in the vehicle (I carry spare set, as backups) +4 gives me 2 complete sets (2 Fr + 1 R) = 6

Plus you rely on forward vision more than rear, the rear wiper on my defender is not the most effective device, yes it clears the water and muck, but not well. Motor, mechanisn, arm & blade are good, it's just poor performance. Zaid-M
