It has but it’s a b*gg*r to get it back down the tube as it’s soooooo long and bendy

BTW make sure you put it back in the right way around - there is a tiny locking notch on the yellow bit on mine that fits into a grove at the top of the tube. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Does the 2.0l lump have a dipstick? ISTR on the Wolverhampton factory tour some of us did it was a case or “why would you want a dipstick, sir?”. They must have relented somewhere. Mr. Green

Yes and is very very long and bendy - two reasons I think....
A) it’s easier/quicker for the service teams to use a vacuum sucker down the dipstick tube at oil change time but doesn’t drain any crap out of the sump.....
B) if my last RRS was anything to go by the electronic one would trow up “Warning: lost communication with oil level sensor”
On longer trips - only way to cancel it was to pull over stop and restart the engine and it would clear and not return. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Careful you don't slip - rubber soled shoes, and a hi-vis jacket in case another member of your family bumps into you whilst you're performing the maintenance action. And have you read the manual? ANd ticked a box somewhere to confirm you've read the manual? And had someone else witness that you ticked the box to confirm you read the manual? Rolling Eyes

And make sure you use a clean rag to wipe the stick, wouldn't want any chance of contaminating the engine oil with any grub on the rag getting transfered on to the dipstick Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

don't fall into the trap of tarring all D250's with the same brush - this is one car.

To quote others "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence".

Unless you know the details of the failure on this engine which make it a unique event; or indeed if that is an accurate diagnosis, then it's not possible to say one way or the other.

Given the nature of mass production, quality standards, singular techniques, automated and calibrated assembly sequences, it may well be harder to introduce a unique fault, rather than a fault traced to a batch of components, faulty torque gun, out of alignment sensor, etc, which would lead to a number of common errors across a range of assembled vehicles.

So we assume the worst on every last Censored potential issue - do you work in Health and Safety by any chance?
Or are you just an internet troll who takes issue with everything?

It seems a far more pragmatic stance than the one you appear to be taking; and more balanced, in that it allows you your view without an intolerant outburst.

You appear to be injecting the very thing you wanted lifting in another thread?

Back to the original post. I wonder if perhaps the vehicle could have been 'abused'. Maybe the vehicle hit a rock hard whilst off roading? Could have damaged the sump? Split the sump? Loss of engine oil? 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Yep all possible.

Sometimes people can be economic with the truth on social media, but on the face of what's he said, LR have inspected it, said it needed a new engine and offered him the opportunity to "reject" it:

So it seems to fall outside operator error?

Pistons from Poland, key fuel system parts from Germany, and perhaps the biggest tech in it is Italian (Fiat), licensed to a German supplier Schaeffler ~ the fuel-saving UniAir electrohydraulic variable valve lift system.
