Humans never fail to amaze
Explain this to me. A couple of days ago I went for a hike with Mrs Grendier. Arrived at the large car park (200+ cars??) which was completely empty, and parked up to start the first ‘line’.

Whilst getting our kit ready a second car arrived, drove to the far end, looped round and then chose their spot. This car park is a triangle shaped car park, of a few acres, with the entrance/exit at the sharp end of the point, 50m to the left of the Def. Can someone please explain this man’s brain to me? I’d be amazed if he had done it when we weren’t standing beside the DC, but he did it in full view, got out, locked up and walked off. I genuinely do not understand the thinking......🤔

This is just one of those phenomena that cannot be explained. You just have to walk away and hope that one day some post graduate decides to base his PhD thesis on this as yet unexplained part of human behaviour and then you'll have your answer. Defender 90XS SW

That is what I call "statement parking", because it makes a very powerful statement about the person who did it. Not a statement that normal people want to make, either.

I seriously question whether someone that stupid should be allowed to drive at all.

Have you or the other person previously used the car park? Wondering whether the other car has parked in what they perceive to be a 'marked parking bay' ? Though I think I can see a bay marking on the left in your second pic > 110 XS Double Cab

At least when he sets off and slides down the hill on his summer tyres he should miss your Defender!!
What usually happens with me in empty car parks is that the next car to arrive always parks about 6 inches away from my vehicle.

I once arranged to meat someone at 7.30 am in an out of town shopping car park. A woman drove in in her smart car and parked in a random bay, she then moved to another equal random bay, got out looked around got back in and moved to another equally random spot.
The fact she had unlimited choice was far too difficult for her to process.
When I started reading I thought you were going to say they parked so close you could not open the door.

I have never seen any behavioural studies of this, but many times I have seen this behaviour. If there are very few spaces, the decision which to have is easy. If the car park is empty, a conscious decision is needed and appears to be too difficult for some.

Another explanation is what happens when you are driving SWMBO's car and she is in the passenger seat, and you park in an excellent space and she then says "I'm not happy with this space" and you have to try seven others before you find the "right" one.

Comments like that ^^ make me almost glad I'm terminally single. I honestly couldn't cope with nonsense like that from anyone.

As to the OP, well the seat driver clearly has something not quite right, maybe you should have challenged him?

I did once (politely) when a young lass parked about 3" off my 110s front bumper in a nose to tail parking area. She did move and I explained that had I not caught her I would have been trapped. Hopefully she didn't do it again. 2011 110 USW

Wouldn't you be tempted to pull/push /drag or whatever means the offending car into a corner and leave it there. It might cause a bit of head scratching when the numpty owner returned. Rolling with laughter

I took my mum to an event many years ago. The car park probably had 200 spaces. We were the first there.

I had the driver's door open when another car arrived. He sat there, waiting until I'd closed the door (a minute or more, I was gathering some stuff together) and then backed in next to us.

Every other space was empty. Weird!
Nowadays I'd have moved to another space once he'd finished, but at the time I was so baffled, I didn't bother.

It is amazing what people do in car parks.
I was meeting a friend in this particular car park. He parked where another half dozen cars were, near to the pedestrian exit.
This car park was tiered, so had a few sections, each fo about 30 cars.
I, in the Defender, picked the middle of 3 empty ones.
Pedal lock on, getting out. Camper van pulls into the car park. Comes into the middle bay, with just me in. Not of course either of the two empty ones.
Decides to either attempt to park or turn around and felt it best to just reverse straight at me. It was obvious she couldn’t see me, and appeared quiet surprised when I scrambled back in to press the horn. Then ensued a few words from the male passenger to the female driver and they made a few more shuffles around the car park then left.

We were all dumbfounded at what happened. Luckily I was still there I suppose.
