I had water coming in on the passenger side & changing the door seal made no difference, which was frustrating as hell! I sealed around the windscreen & still water was coming in, damn it! It's definitely a love hate relationship with my 110 at times & she never apologises for the trouble she causes me.

Then I replaced the little butyl pads which seal the gaps between the panels (under the seals) & that did the trick. Unbelievable! That was a couple of years ago & not one single drop of water ingress since.

This is the useful article that told me what I needed to do.

Thanks for your insight mate. I did do the water test with a watering can and the water is coming in too far back on the door to be the butyl patches. I tried pouring watering cans over the wiper splines incase it was the wiper wheel box. I tried the windscreen seals, the windscreen blocks, the lot, then as a last chance saloon I did the roof, which ran to the drainage channels… they ran off the front and hit the door (I also targeted the top of the door) and then I climbed in the drivers door to find this which, to me, was a bit of a smoking gun.

There used to be a “Defender water ingress manual” you could download with all the leak points in it

Yeah, I’ve got a couple of copies of it thanks. I’m pretty confident that it’s the seal at this point tbh, if it isn’t then I can recommence discovery

When you replaced the seals did you add any putty to the gaps where the tub joins the sides, and also sides to the roof? always a good idea to use a bit of gum gum putty and a bit of tape over the top of that. Stops it running down the inside of the seals.

I think it’s called Dum dum. Autocorrect might have adjusted to gum!
