I got a pair of LED lamps of eBay for about £25 and have linked one to a switch that I use from the front for when I am reversing and the other is switched from the rear with the engine off when I need a work light.

Cheap, easy to replace and provides plenty of light.

No. I don't think the reversing light is even part of the MOT (it didn't used to be as it's not a legal requirement but things may have changed).

It is illegal to wire a high level "work light" type light into the reversing light, however, and it is in fact illegal to use a work light on the road unless it is used in conjunction with an amber beacon. You are extremely unlikely to be done for doing so however.

Reversing light is part of the MOT for vehicles built after 2006. Richard

It's pretty unlikely but I do have an isolator switch so that they can be disconnected from the reverse light circuit if required. Darren

There are so many LED work/flood lights available these days that will do the job that it really comes down what you like the look of. I had a 48w version of the one linked to by wynn153 on the rear of my old 90 and it was superb. On my current 110 I have a couple of the lights linked to by Blackwolf (under £20 for a pair on eBay) and they are also very good.

There are also lots of different ways that they can be wired up. If coupled with an LED bulb in the original reverse light then there's no reason why you couldn't wire an extra light to the same feed as it'll be within the capacity of the wiring. It will only work as a reverse light, though. I wanted to be able to use mine as scene lighting when camping and so they're connected to the second battery and activated by relays. That allows them to be switched on automatically when reversing (and when the side lights are on) or independently when parked.

I have a few different new led lights to try on the rear that will all be switched from the dash and couple switched from the rear also Thumbs Up , I fitted Halford led bulbs in my 65 transit to replace reverse bulbs and it’s amazing how good they are Bow down

Just a note on my experience with Halfords LED bulbs and that is that their longevity is poor and quality no better than very much cheaper ebay offerings.
I use LED stop and tail bulbs in my DRLs.
The first bulbs I bought from ebay lasted about a month before dying within an hour of each other.
The second pair I bought from Halfords, I figured that the higher price would indicate higher quality. However there was a startling similarity between the old ebay and new Halfords both in appearance and weight.
One didn't work out the box, returned and replaced. This pair lasted 6 weeks before starting to flicker continually.
About this time the LED headlamp bulb thread started. While browsing classic car LEDs website I saw they sold stop/tail bulbs for the same price as Halfords (about £8 or so).
I ordered a pair and on arrival they looked slightly different to the Halfords but more noticeably heavier, weighing about twice the weight of the Halfords bulbs.
They've been fitted since then without a single problem.
Halfords sell many good things but LED bulbs are not one of them.
Classic car LEDs on the other hand get my unreserved recommendation.
Hope that saves someone some money.

They’re impressive aren’t they James, one think I will say is check what type of fittings you have before ordering. Our front indicators were different to the rears & it saves returning them.
