Leaking rear side windows
In the rear of my 1999 110 I have sliding windows. All good apart from the leak and the rattle when I just the doors (the rattle I can live with for now) its the leak that I would like to fix

The leak appears on the plastic trim below the window and is in the middle, almost inline with the middle upright.
Is this a know feature? and hints and tips on fixing the leak? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Do you ever use them?

Back when I had a truck cab years ago I just sealed the sliding window shut with silicone in the end, as the rattle was annoying me and I never opened the damn thing.

When I come to put my 110 back together I'm just going to replace those rear windows with solid glass, can't see any reason to have them open unless you have passengers back there.

They do get used but not very often. Mainly when I am on rallies when parked up and its too windy to open the door windows or when I have mast up and need the wire into the vehichle. 1999 Defender TD5 110

As said by others, a rattling sliding pane is probably down to knackered felt channels - You'll have fun replacing those!
As far as the leaks are concerned, and at risk of stating the obvious, are the drainage slots in the window frame blocked up with cr@p and causing water to overflow into the vehicle? Is the vertical rubber seal that should be located between fixed and sliding window panes damaged or missing? Pictures would help with diagnosis. '57 Defender 110 XS Station Wagon 2.4tdci

I might have to investigate the felt option at some point

As far as I can tell the vertical rubber seals are correct and OK, Will post a picture.
The drain holes look OK to me. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Here is a picture of the leak

I noticed that the side panel was also wet and a closer look revealed that if I pressed the panel below the section where the bolts are, I get some water flexed/pumped out the joint.

The leak is the same on the windows on the other side of the car but could not see any water escape from the same joint

Both panels have been left off incase of more rain overnight and I will have another look. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Good day.

Mine used to rattdle as well and they are now fixed. Instead of using the original felt I went toward the window channel option. http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-290-single-track.aspx. In order to fix the rattle I had to take them off the vehicle. The screw that old the bar in the middle of the window with the rubber seal is what fix the rattle. It got loose with time. You can tight the bottom and top screw to the point that you wont be able to slide the windows anymore. Since they were apart I got them tinted. Now they look good and don't rattle. As for your leak you need to fix the roof leak first but when you take them apart you will see a silicone bead at the lower part of the middle metal bar. This might need to be renew!!

Right back to leaking windows......
Over the weekend I ran some Sikaflex around the outside of the sliding windows where the frame meets the body in the hope of fixing the leak....But no.

The water can be seen dripping from between the raised section of metal and the metal that forms the frame of the window as shown in the picture.

So....Ideas on sealing this section of body?
I was wondering if the water is getting past the roof and body seal?

Ideas people please, I am getting fed up with wet carpets 1999 Defender TD5 110

Hi. It is an old thread but I see that you are still active.
Were you able to fix the leak?
Thanks.
