It goes away when clutch de-pressed and do you think LR will wear it as it is now 3 years old and out of warranty BUT i have done 15k gently and the first Defenders were fitted with a weak pressure plate?
How much for a new clutch from a LR outlet or an Indy?
Thanks.

No chance if it's out of warranty!

A new clutch from a dealer is about £770 parts and labour plus VAT, so approx £1k. Genuine clutch kit is about £250, an AP (Borg & Beck) clutch is about half that (and is probably made in the same factory). Kit in both cases includes driven plate and cover.

I am currently trying to decide whether to do it myself and have all the hassle that involves - and it is a very heavy gearbox - or pay the money and let LR do it.

You will need a new fly wheel as well I expect. ££££££££

The simple fix would be to PX it to the dealer let them sort it and you drive away with a new D4 er Defender Whistle 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

But at least the Puma flywheel should be cheaper than the awful dual-mass abomination needed on a TD5 every time the clutch is replaced!

I doubt the flywheel needs replacing as the main problem is the clutch plate springs. Only if they have let go and scorred the flywheel would it need replacing.

Good luck RD - at least a FL2 will be more satisfactory than an outdated Defender Thumbs Up John

my clutch has now 64000 km still the first one, does rattle a bit when you leave it in standstill but it's still running, gears still change perfectly.

Mine seems not to release 100% and get a bit of backlash on the props and makes a wee crack when in neutral when the pedal is pressed and released...

Dealer has a Grey Metallic (not sure if it is Stornaway) Utility XS with black chequer plate and Saw-tooth alloys and 235 BFG all-terrains and it looks mighty nice... just 33 reasons why it won't be mine. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
