Fuel tank removal hints and tips
I need to replace the breather on my 2.2 90. I’ve read the sticky on here, but outside of that there is little that google can help with!! Any hints or tips for the process and anything else I should be doing while the tank is out?

Cheers
Col

i havent seen the sticky for it.

have a large pry bar handy and be prepared to manhandle it.

use a good quality fuel rated breather pipe.

take tow hitch if fitted off prior

some of them come out easy some takes ages.

remember - its a pain in the arse but people have done it so its doable. Cheers

One obvious but often overlooked point is to make sure that there is as little fuel as possible in the tank.

Cheers. Planning on getting some paint and dinitrol on the backside of the cross member while I’m at it and the underside of the rear floor. Is it worth fitting the guard out and replacing it to make life easier (this maybe be negated once I find out how much a new one is!!)

Yep, £140 from YRM. Will be taking the old one out very carefully!!

Can anyone recommend some decent quality hose that will do the job?

Here’s a thought. What about something like this to allow access from the top. It low profile enough to site flush with the sound proofing and with 180mm dia would provide enough space to get the FEO pump out in the future, but if I positioned above the fuel pump would I be able the reach the breather?

Hi,

I had this issue a year or so ago. Took me ages to find out anythng about it, and as some have done considered putting an accesss point in the floor. However, i didn't really fancy putting more holes in the thing so, afer much debate, stress and worry about what to do I took it to my local indie and he dropped it out, swapped all the bits over, rust proofed all the areas that can't usually be got at and put it all back - no bother at all. Oh, and the tank was less than a 1/4 full.

Obviously with ramps and all the kit its different to doing it yourself but afterwards I did wonder why I was so worried about it!

Cheers

Any thoughts on what to replace the breather with? I don’t want to fit a genuine hose and have to do it again in a few years. Does anyone know the dimensions of it?
