Hi folks just a random question from north Australia after parking my 130 in an airport car park this morning.
Has anybody done their drivers test in a 130? Or even heard if it happening? Would be interested to know how it went. Cheers Alan |

I have never heard of it and it is fairly unlikely in the UK that you would be able to take a driving test in any truck cab Land-Rover (whether single- or double-cab) due to the lack of visibility.
The list of requirements/prohibitions for the UK is quite extensive and can be found here. Some of the restrictions are quite interesting - you cannot for example take the test in a car with an outstanding recall unless you can prove that the remedial work have been carried out. My 110 DC would not be allowable for a driving test since it has no rear window and no interior rear view mirrors. |

If it’s road legal, complies with the requirements I can’t see why not.
I took and passed my test in 1984 in my fathers Audi Quattro because my driving instructor didn’t turn up in his car. I only ever drove it once after that when we did some motorway practice. He sold it soon after because he found the two doors too impractical. If only he’d kept it

It would also depend on the examiner- some of them are incredibly fussy.
I was planning to use my 110 for my trailer test (you know, when it was a thing.....) and was told that the test centre in Sheffield would turn it away because they deemed them "unsafe due to being unable to keep up with traffic". Ended up using the trailer-trainers touareg instead. Chris |

I cant imagine pulling off the 'three point turn' on a typical test friendly back street in a 130 without using the pavement and removing the neighbours hedge.
Fun trying though......  |

these days the term is 'multi-point turn'........ depends on how much time the examiner has got  |

Although I wouldn't think it would in help your chances of passing, I think any car legally allowed to drive on the road (within the correct class etc) should be allowed to be used.
After all, once you pass your license you are allowed to drive a car which they deem to be 'unsafe due to being unable to keep up with traffic' (EDIT) had a quick look at that DVLA list. That is just soo funny. You can't make this up. Give them their dues though, it is very practical advice! I think in Mainland Europe it has to be a car from a driving school, that's how they keep the racket up and the people down. Same reason you fail your first time - its all about the money! |

How dare you sir. I passed first time in 1988 i’ll have you know. Driving my bright orange VW Golf, 500 quid from the local auction with a dashboard held together with UHU and when stopping at the traffic lights it was a lottery so whether the car was in first or reverse for the pull away
On the lesson before the test I nearly went up a one way road with a police car coming the other way and then the driving examiner at the end of the test saying that I really should re read the Highway Code, but as he couldn’t fail me for that he passed me. I can’t honestly say I’ve improved since…. |

I did my minibus&trailer test in my instructors 85hp dually transit, with a loaded trailer. That thing couldn’t keep up with a hill, let alone traffic!! |

Youngest son passed his test a few weeks ago. I taught him in the 110 and he had a dozen lessons from an instructor just to polish him up.
Prior to his test we called in at the test centre to check if he could take the test in the 110 if his instructor wasn't available. Consensus was it would be ok if we rolled up the canvas sides for visibility and it wasn't raining...... Click image to enlarge |
