I’ve had 2 Morgan’s, I believe the Ash for the wood frames was European Ash and was sourced from the U.K. and Belgium. |

Morgan is no longer family owned but the family are still minority shareholders. The major share holder is an Italian venture capital company called Investindustrial who took over in 2019

I didn’t realise it wasn’t owned by the family anymore as I have been out of Morgan ownership for a few years. My 4/4 was great on a warm sunny day but bloody awful at any other time. Quite a lot of parallels with Older Defender ownership, hard ride leaked in water, suspect build quality, uncomfortable for long distance but pretty nippy and on a Summers day on A and B roads it was great.

Is an Apple iPhone or iPad American? Yes. But no.
I’d suggest that of any modern brand, it’s less about where they are made, more about where they are ‘created’ and where they identify with. Almost nothing we buy that is European or American and that has been manufactured on a global scale, is produced in the same country as it was launched or developed in. Tesla is a rare, recent example, but it will soon open factories in Germany and China. But if you buy an iPhone, whilst you think of it as American, it’s almost 100% Chinese. But they were created in the US, are based in the US, led by teams and management in the US, and have US style marketing and advertising. We think of the brand as being American. We accept that, albeit for many almost unknowingly. But saying a car is British because it’s built in Britain is an (understandably romantic) fallacy in the 21c. Otherwise, as already pointed out, a couple of cars/brands we unhesitatingly identify as Japanese, are actually British. Toyota and Nissan. But they’re not. Or maybe they are, or.......I don’t know. And what of the Frenchman’s Renault Trafic. Or should that be the German’s Opel Vivaro, or the Japanese’s Nissan.....you get my point. It’s simply not as easy, when one understands modern business models for mass production, supply chains, development etc, to say that if a product is fabricated in x or y location that it possesses a particular national heritage. It’s simply not the case and hasn’t been for a generation. For mass production anyway. Clearly for a niche brand like Morgan or Ariel, this doesn’t apply.
