Work Light Ideas/Photos
Righto, looking into work lights at the moment. I have an LED reverse light and it's an improvement over the standard unit but I tend to have to use the brake lights as an aid when it's properly dark. Plus I'd benefit from being able to see the area around the rear door on occasion. Would people mind posting up some photos of their work light set ups, please? I'm seriously tempted by a Lazer Utility 45 but the photos available are mostly close-ups. I'm open to recommendations for other brands as well! Thumbs Up Then the question is, do I get just one work light or two and make it symmetrical? Whistle
Cheers! Charlie

Ebay specials. I like the round ones Smile low power draw so didn't use a relay. Nice and bright.
Only really needed on but went for two for symmetry.

I have a scenelight myself, just like the one above. Nice piece of kit.

But, just to suggest something a bit left field. Before I had the scenelight I'd put this on.

Basically a work light, wired to a plug which attaches to the back of the car. It's a marine deck fitting, so definitely waterproof enough, and it means you can move the light around to where you need it if it's not handily placed at the back of the car.

I've done trailer wheel bearings by the roadside with this, where I've clipped the light to the armco barrier.

Light's now been replaced by an LED version. Donald

Another vote for the scenelight

Simple enough to fit, bright and robust. Cracking reverse light, reasonable spread to use as a work light when setting up camp, and low enough draw that when accidentally left on all night (how the hotel concierge didn't notice I'll never know) didn't leave me with a flat battery the following afternoon..

I did have an issue with the finish coming off after about 3 years, but spoke to the manufacturer and they happily swapped as part of the 10 year warranty, no questions asked 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

I opted for a pair of lights in an effort to reduce the shadow cast by the spare wheel:

Despite being inexpensive, they're very bright and are lasting well:

I like the thinking behind that a lot Thumbs Up

The fatal flaw with any light attached to the vehicle is that the moment you turn your back to it, you start to create shadows in front of you. I've found that a good quality headtorch does a much better job and is far more flexible, especially if you get one of those that does both flood and spot beams.

This is may current one:

I have two of these at the rear and one half-way along each side. The rear pair is mounted on modified mirror arms primarily so that I can open the rear flap but also to allow them to be directed backwards, sideways, or even forwards. The lights were Ebay specials, flood beam, and as I recall under a tenner each, and have been fitted for at least a decade. The rear and each side is separately switched, and the one on the nearside is under the level of my Foxwing so can work as an awning light.

Overall it means that off-road or in a work situation the vehicle is surrounded by a pool of light. It has, on more occasions than I can count, been extremely useful. The rear pair is especially useful if you are towing a large trailer along narrow roads in the dark and have to reverse (or for that matter need to alert oncoming traffic to the presence of the large trailer).

Yes I suppose that unless you’ve got an overhead flood light, or head torch, there’s always going to be some shadows when working in the illuminated area.

Likeomg, how are you getting on with the 80? Charlie
