I had a look into it and found that it's the mirrors off the old Leyland Daf Sherpa c 1980s, not the more recent LDV 200s or 400s. Having checked on a LDV forum (yep they have a forum for LDV van nuts) it seems the only likely way of getting hold of such mirrors is through a breakers. There are companies who sell larger mirror heads for the Defender, including some with unbreakable surface and some heated. I've read mixed reports - some claiming they're the best thing since sliced bread; others complain about the amount they vibrate and yet others who say the head continuously droops. Unless I could get some free to try I think I'll stick with the originals as £40 is a lot of money to find out they're no good. Taz |

I fitted some larger mirrors, so I don’t have to fit extended mirrors while towing our caravan. Normally they are tucked in, but I push them out, when I’m towing and they show all down the side of the caravan. They do vibrate a bit more than the standard ones, but not that you would notice. I’m told all I bought from one of the 4x4 retailers in LRO, is Wolf mirrors and arms that are still a standard item. So perhaps a call to a stealership’s parts shop is in order.
Beware that the fixing screws are different from the ones in the standard mirrors and may not come with the mirrors. Also you will have to take off the top hinge, which means supporting the door while you do it, otherwise it will rest on only one hinge which isn’t a good idea at all. Merlin. |
