My 90 was comfortable, no complaints with the coils, but now I have the 110 on air it’s on another level, it’s been a while since I’ve had an LR on air. Though it does lose a bit of character I feel. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Air suspension now an option on 90 hard top.

ls it worth the £1600 extra cost? l drove one on coil springs and it was great, but my daily driver is the old Defender so l guess it would be, compared to that.

You'll notice a massive improvement even with springs on the new Defender compared to the old one!

I can't speak for air suspension on the new Defender as mine has springs (2021 Hard Top) (although I did test drive a 90 on air) but I've had it on several other 4x4s (Landcruiser, F-Pace, Grand Cherokee) and I can honestly say I don't think it makes much difference plus is notorious for breaking albeit the warranty will cover that. There are certain things I look for (and happy to pay extra for) in a vehicle but air suspension is somewhere down the list.

The 110 will probably be smoother than the 90 anyway whether it's on coil or air suspension because of the longer wheelbase.

My 90 on coil springs is great on road, although off road it's really no better comfort wise than my old 2005 Defender 110.

Do you really think so? I can tear around fields like I’m on tarmac in mine. Haven’t twa**ed my head on the door once yet https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

Re: Commercial L663 110 Rear window activation.

There are a few companies offering rear window activation on L663 110 Hardtops but to my knowledge nobody has actually linked the rear windows to the driver window switch controls?

It appears that the commercial variant uses a different wiring loom within the rear doors and I believe that software activation maybe required?

A new Drivers door switch and switch cover is required. It looks like the switch and cover vary depending on what model you have.

It would also be good to get the rear door speakers installed and working, but this definitely needs the software changes so the rear speakers are on the FADER adjustment.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I spoke to Vulcan about this the other week. They currently don't offer the window activation on the 110. Something about needing so many parts and being expensive. But I'd assume that if enough people ask they'd offer it.
Who else is offering this service?

Venture in Bolton are doing it. Just waiting for mine to get booked in.

Does anyone know what parts need to be changed for the conversion and the part numbers?

From my knowledge:

Rear part of the floor
Rear windows trim (the silicone will stay in place unless the doors are repainted)
Rear door wiring in order to enable the windows?
Rear door switches
Rear door "handles" for closing the door
B pillar grab handles in order to close the holes left by the bulkhead
Rear seats and seat bases and seatbelts

Anything else?

Little PSA for any hard top owners or potential owners....

Not being a London dweller, was down visiting my little bro last week. Was driving from Battersea to Bow and the sat nav took me under the Rotherhithe tunnel.... which apparently you can't do in a commercial Defender because it's too heavy. £80 slap on the knuckles. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

The Rotherhithe tunnel was built in about 1910 and l think there's a 2m height restriction as well. Never designed for the motorised behemoths we all drive today.

A large horse weighs around 1,000kg which is just under a ton.

Maybe it was designed to take a maximum of a couple of horses and a cart.

Yeah, seems a bit daft. It's commercials with a GVW over 2T.
