Good pointer, thanks. Had a little look this morning and there is certainly some play in the a frame balljoint so can probably expect the same in bushes.
Not sure I can face this job myself though so a trip to ASV in tidworth may be in order. |

4x4 garage. Not used them myself but close to me and highly recommended by the locals.

Fitted the cyrix battery combiner over the weekend. Already had some 16mm cable and crimps so a fairly straightforward job. No pics of this at the moment but all goes together very well. Now have two 95Ah batteries linked with most of the 12v accessories coming off the second battery.
Rear step is painted and back on. Changed the wing top vents. Not sure what they were exactly but didn't like the raised ones that came with the car so went back to standard, with a fresh coat of satin black.  Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Final job this round was fitting the new tyres. I bought a set of 4 Goodyear wrangler mt/r in 235/85/16 to replace the special tracks. Had them fitted to a set of modular rims I bought a few weeks ago. Looking good i think. The offset is different to the freestyle alloys. They looked a bit Carlos fandango when I first fitted one so I took off the 30mm spacers and they are just right (IMO anyway). ET08 modulars. I suppose it will be job-ish done. I'll have done the spruce up I had planned but there will be lots more to come once it gets used I decided not to wait for the new roof rack feet i cut the originals which were joined at the bottom and then put on pair front and one back. Still very solid and will do the job for now. Fitting was an interesting challenge on my own but with some ingenuity, wood and hop-ups I got it on and secured. Then took the opportunity to take it for a spin on the plain and took a few pics while up there. Thank you very much. I am pleased with it and love the way it looks.
Not much done recently, put fuel in and driven it around. Running well and now I have had the a frame ball joint replaced the annoying knock has gone. I debated using the light bars that were originally on the truck but could not really work out a decent fit so I decided to buy a new one. Clearly lots of options but rather than spend a fortune on something that I am not too sure how much it will get used I opted for finest chinesium. There was already a flat ally bar fixed to the rack where twisted originally mounted a light bar so i just drilled that and bolted the new one in. Well, slight snag. Seat cover was for a puma seat and didn't fit. Replacement sorted and fitted today.

Thank you, very happy with the way turned out.
This weekend jobs - first, meet up with couple of other defenders for a day out on Salisbury plain. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge It behaved itself very well. Back to finishing up a few jobs today. Wired up the light bar. It might be a cheap Chinese version but it is flippin bright. Fitted a replacement CB. Managed to get one with the same dimensions as the duff thunderpole one so it fits into the raptor dash. Click image to enlarge Then took the centre seat out so I could refit the cubby box. The plan was to install the wiring for the heated seats in it. I had fed an extra switched live cable from the dash when installing the other wiring so had a feed for it. Put the switches just in front of the cup holders. All the other Gubbins is inside the cubby and I will hide that under a false floor. It all look quite neat and the heated seat pads work very well. Click image to enlarge Next jobs - CB aerial, get a decent Jack, service kit for the engine and drive and enjoy it some more. And a quick trip to Coventry in the week to collect a hannibal roof tent and another roof rack. |
