Bonnet lettering: Defender vs Land Rover
According to my bonnet I have a Land Rover, but some of you have a Defender. Is there any reason for that? Does the lettering on the bonnet indicate something different, for example some sort of package or similar? Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR

It's down to JLR's marketing strategy - their three tiered family line up - Range Rover, Discovery and Defender. Defender 90XS SW

The later models had the Defender livery

I had a conversation with my son last night about the bonnet and although the Defender looks nice i think i prefer the Land Rover

It changed to Defender for the MY14 vehicles, just a marketing thing. 2011 110 USW

It hadn't occurred to me until reading this thread, but it is curious that at the time that it was branding the Defender bonnet with the lettering "LAND ROVER" with a space between to two words, the firm was actually officially named "Landrover" with no space, this having been the case since it dropped the original "LAND-ROVER" name (with a hyphen).

I wonder why the bonnet wasn't badged "LANDROVER" without the space to match the name of the maker.

I'm pretty sure that when they dropped the hyphen the trade-marked name became Landrover (no space), but I am happy to think I may be wrong.

Land-Rover became Land Rover Ltd in 1978, when it was separated from BL as a stand alone company. It's never been called or marketed as Landrover. Darren

MY13 to MY14 was the changeover.

A friends MY13 built in early November 2013 has Land Rover on the bonnet. My MY14 built a few weeks later has Defender on the bonnet. Thumbs Up Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

The Td5 had a Defender sticker above the grill - wipe clean so no need to clean between the letters!
