For some reason my better half drew a line and wouldn't sit down and watch this with me... I wonder if any of you have better luck...

Yep, we watched it this morning.

I suspect I was more interested than wifey, but then isolation does a funny thing to people.. Whistle

Maybe we need a separate thread just for off the wall You Tube video's at this time.

Thumbs Up

Interesting video. I always fancied a genuine German wartime can, but they are pretty rare and far from cheap... 2011 110 USW

Excellent. In the face of the lockdown, he's obviously a guy with a 'can do' attitude... Darren

Are the colours significant?

Different nations would have used different colours. Grey or yellow for German, green for allied. More modern ones are often black. 2011 110 USW

Don't the colours indicate the contents?

Sorry, I haven't watched the video yet, I am saving that for when solitary confinement gets really bad.

The colours indicating contents are usually on a tag attached to the can, with the exception of water, water if stored in steel cans usually have the pressings on the side of the can painted white.
White for water, then a convention of yellow for diesel and red for petrol. Not heard of any others. 80" 1948

WW2 German one had a white cross for water. Not aware of any other colour signifiers. He does mention white crosses in the video. 2011 110 USW

Red for Petrol / Gasoline
Yellow for Diesel
Black for Oils
Blue or White for Water

The water ones are plastic or a poly compound as the Jerry Cans have a liner that helps prevent corrosion but is water soluble so you'll basically ruin one if you you put water in it
