Folding rear bench seat release pull broken.
Is there an easy method to resolve this issue?
The release mechanism for the single bench seat behind the drivers seat is broken.Anybody have any ideas on how to release the latch so the seat folds down and I’m able to access all the screws to fix this issue.

Sure....I’ve added a picture of the good side that’s functioning. The Defender is LHD and originally from Germany. Not sure if they’re much different to the UK spec.I can take more pictures if you require. To be honest the good side does not function very well.If there’s a solution to replace both then I would probably be happier. But the biggest problem at the moment is I can’t drop the single seat.

Tony

Hello you should be able to use a pair of long nose pliers or tweezers down the hole and pull on the broken rod, you may have to wiggle the seat as you pull it.

Part number MWC1614 link rod R.H
Part number MWC1615 link rod L.H
Part number MWC2722 plastic ring pull

Here's the parts list. I had the same issue in my LHD 110. I tried to get down in there with a pair of needle nose but didn't know what to grasp to pull. I may be able to now that I've had it apart and know what to pull.
I had to take out all the nuts and bolts that hold on the cover (Part #1). It was a bit tricky as the seat is in the way of some of the screws. I also took out the bolts (2 bolts) that connect the back of the seat to the seat cushion. Then removed the seat cushion frame (2 bolts). That helped.

It turned out Part #7 was broken off at the top. I used a small diameter piece of cable about 6" long and looped it through part #21 and then crimped the 2 ends with an aluminum crimp and then fed it out through the slot in part #1. I replace all the hardware with stainless steel allen head bolts and nuts.
It works fine

Please post up a few pictures of the fix.

These are not simple to fix, as above, the issue is getting access to the broken mech. Going in through the seat itself is required to get access to the mech mounting bolts. Its quite a typical failure , usually the plug pull lug breaks. A pain to fix as its time consuming but it's all very simple once you are in there Cheers

Swiss, I'm trying to upload a couple of pics for you but when I chose the pics it just says "Adding to Panel" and doesn't do anything more. I've searched posting pics and have followed the directions. Not sure what's up.

It may be that the pictures consume too large a storage space.
Will PM you with my email.
Thanks for your efforts.
