MOT Expiry, extended by 6 months.
DVSA have just announced all MOT expiry dates, from 30 March, have been extended by 6 months.

Either a 90, 110 or 130.

Good. Thanks for putting that up. I was expecting/hoping for that, as we have a car with an MOT expiry which is exactly as the example given - expiring on 30th April. Now extended to 30th October.

However, maybe I missed it, but presumably this is "until further notice" as I didn't see anything about when this ends?

So, if I have a car with an MOT in September, it looks as if this extension would currently apply, but that this might change at some point in the future? Donald

My interpretation of it is that every current MOT certificate end date after the 30th March will have 6 months added to it. Hypothetically if you had just had an MOT on (say) 20th March that would normally expire on 16th March 2021, you've just gained 6 months.

It will be interesting to see what the expiry date is when the test is finally done.
I bet it gets backdated so the 12 months starts from the due date of the original test.

Possible, but I feel unlikely, since that would create a bow wave of tests which the test centres probably can't handle. More likely that there will just be a 6 month lag to keep the demand for test even.

I just had an MOT on our Toyota, 19 March 2020 expiry 23 March 2021.

My wife has her Land Rover due in May, mine is in October so we will have
a mix of outcomes.

I would guess that there will be no back dating for any MOT's now extended
when tested it's a year from that point. SKIP

Although this is great for people like us on here, who generally know their vehicles inside out, it's not so great for anyone who has no mechanical aptitude and for whom the MoT is the only time they find out their vehicle has various faults that need attending to urgently.

Regardless, I'll get my 90 done as soon as I can after everything calms down. It will never have been in such good 'ready for MOT' state of repair Smile Insta: @thebenjordan4x4

Expect a lot of cars on the road with just one headlight and one brake light working.

Actually, there already are.....

The 110 Utility was tested today; the MoT was due to run out today. New expiry date 26/3/21, no automatic six month extension for that vehicle.

Lotus expiry still shows 5/9/20 online, wonder if it will change after 30/3/20? Current Steeds:
2015 110 UW in Grasmere Green
2003 BMW F650 the Hack
2000 Elise
1992 Ducati 888 (no longer in bits, yahoo)
1990 TDR 250 (in bits again)
1988 TDR 250 (no longer in bits) and for sale

That's the norm for most vehicles less that 3 years old. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.
