Might be easier if you also remove the trim above which is under the clocks - 2 screws
Also, if you take a look, the trim is held by going around the ignition barrel, the trim needs to be wiggled forwards to get it over this. You have to be both brave and brutal ![]() |

Aha I hadn’t thought of removing the trim beneath the clocks, will give that a go. Yes brave and brutal I think I have been there before with the Defender

Definitely agree what Go Beyond said. I've been there myself and that trim piece will need to come out below the clocks.
After that you'll have no problem. ![]() ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

There really shouldn't be any need to remove anything other than the steering wheel to remove the column shroud. I did this task recently to fit an X-Eng ignition barrel shroud.
There are six screws that hold the top and bottom halves together - four posi-drive and two torx - and with those removed both parts should be obviously loose, probably only held in place by the ignition barrel and the rubbers around the stalks. The top half needs a bit of wiggling to get it out from under the instrument cluster as there's a foam filler between the two.
