Surging
Am I just imagining things, or does my 110 sometimes drive as though I am lifting my foot on and off the gas pedal? Its very slight, but noticeable enough, even the mrs noticed it today, seems to only happen at low speeds. Its done this maybe 2 or 3 times now. Has anyone else experienced this? Rev counter is not moving (ie its not bouncing up and down) so I don't think the engine is literally revving up or anything, just feels as though its pulling, then stops, then pulls again...we ignore the speedo as its stuffed due to the tachograph.

Or is it just me?

I was doing about 25-30mph in 4th, so maybe about 1200 rpm? 2011 110 USW

sorry to jump in but could anyone shed a little more light on this anti stall - I know what it is and what its supposed to do but a) I thought this was a low ratio thing and b) at 1200 rpm......?

I presume this is a completely electronic thing and doesnt cause intermittent problems etc? if a problem then is it a re-map?

Need to get your revs up by the sound of it - I tend to keep mine between 1500 - 2000 rpm!

From LR - "And to cope with difficult progress when the engine is working hard at low speed, say 1000 RPM, the anti-stall device intelligently adjusts the fuel required by the engine".

Have you got the hang of the gears yet or is it still clunking?

I have got the hang of the gears, but they do clunk sometimes...I just accept it to be honest. I do tend to let the engine pull the vehicle along at low speeds, which could be why the anti-stall might kick in, but its still at 1500rpm or so... 2011 110 USW

if you put it in high 1st and pull away with a load - ie uphill or applying the brake or something similar to invoke the antistall are the symptoms the same as what you describe at speed in 4th? does it do it in all the gears?

dont touch the accelerator pedal when doing the above.

anti stall works in all gears hi and low

idle jack is low range 1st specific. Cheers

It could just be the amount of play in the drive train, our roads are bumpy...doesn't seem to do it all the time whatever it is... 2011 110 USW

Bumpy roads....sounds more like throttle control Confused They can lurch on and off an get into a lurching rythym if you don't steady the pedal. Ease off, stick your foot down or they used to say push your foot against the bulkhead wall whilst your foot is on the accelerator to steady it over rough ground - they actually say wedge it against the bulkhead Shocked See you in timbuktu Neutral

I seem to get this jerking quite a lot... and also clunking gears. Am I just driving it like a complete rookie? (This is my first Defender) Any tips?

My defender does about the same. When driving in second at about 1500-1700 rpm and easing the pressure on the pedal it sometimes raises the revs a little bit - a few times I felt I had to apply the clutch Shocked because I intended to slow down and not increasing speed. It only goes on for a a sec. or two - gotten used to it by now.

This all sounds familure, although I can't recall where I read it, but it may be something to do with one of the fuses being blown. I think it was the brake light fuse, but can't be certain.

I'll see if I can find what I read, but it was quite while back. In the meantime, it won't take long to check your fuses.

I can check the brake lights easily enough using the reflection in the house windows...

To be honest its such a subtle thing, but enough to be noticed. I think I only really noticed because a) its a brand new truck and b) I have been keeping a close eye on things due to problems with it having the tachograph in. 2011 110 USW
