"Jaguar is halting production of the I-Pace for one week because of a shortage of lithium-ion batteries Jaguar’s best-selling I-Pace electric car has a problem: it has run out of batteries. Jaguar is halting production of the £61,000 SUV at a factory in Graz, Austria, for a week from Monday next week because of a shortage of lithium-ion batteries. The I-Pace’s batteries are supplied by South Korean electronics giant LG Chem, which makes them at a factory in Wroclaw, Poland. Jaguar’s woes reflect car-makers’ struggles to meet surging demand for electric cars and slash emissions while relying on fragile supply chains. Jaguar sold about 18,000 I-Paces last year and it won the top prize at last year’s World Car of the Year awards. Ministers last week unveiled a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2035. Looks like Tesla are suffering the same issues, as well as the cost of battery materials going up.
I guess in turn the cost of EV’s will increase and will EV thefts be the next big thing after Cat thefts.. |

It will be good around the conurbations however for the 500 – 1000 km journeys in other parts of the world it is still a way off. |

So sales are down at JLR, skilled workers being laid off, a market place that is shifting faster than they can respond to and what do they offer.....
Have the designers and marketing been watching Demolition Man? I think in the future I’ll opt to be one of those living underground and not on the surface using three shells. Why the race (and the money involved) for this sort of stuff when the charging inferstructure is no where ready and let’s face it looking at the news this last week, with all the flooding, would you rather not have a diesel than an electric you would not dare to plug in whist sitting in a foot of water.... Perhaps JLR laid off the wrong group of people. Be well citizens |

I still don't think everything electric is the right way for the future to be honest, it will need a variety of sources as well, like biofuels, hydrogen cell and god forbid some fossil fuels.
They are focussing too much on one source imo, but what do I know.... 
So many other things need to change if we want to be kinder to the planet, not just what car you drive and how its powered. |

+1 BEV will not solve the problem it will be a part of the solution though. I jumped on the BEV bandwagon nearly 5 years ago not because it’s cheap to run and not because it’s eco, it isn’t when you consider the source of the power and battery but I like the fact it doesn’t spew pollution out wherever it goes (especially cities where I use it) I like how it leaves the problem at source where hopefully focus on renewables and better efficiency can be made. i also like how we don’t have to wait for efficiency improvements to filter through the ownership chain if energy gets cleaner any BEV can use it.
i have an ipace on order which should prove interesting, the bmw will be going back to bmw to sell on as they track the battery and at end of useful life for the BEV usecase Can recycle them into energy storage solutions for (I think Bosch) where the life expectancy for that use case is +20 years which makes me feel a bit better about the battery impact.
