Grille insert replacement (air con model) recommendations?
The grille insert at the bottom of my 2.2 Puma is looking tatty. I think it's aluminium with a poor factory paint finish which has now flaked and exposed the corroded metal. I'd like to replace the offending part with a stainless steel substitute and was hoping someone could recommend something. I've found one on Zunsport that looks like it would do the job but would be grateful for any advice! Thanks

Fitted the naked stainless steel Nakatanenga from 4x4 overlander today and it fits perfectly and looks great. I used stainless torx-headed machine screws with nyloc nuts rather than pop rivets, mainly because I was worried I'd crack the plastic part of the grille if I messed up the rivets. The factory grille I removed looks like plain aluminium with a quick spray of body colour paint from the front - no wonder the paint flaked off so quickly!

Have seem some RCX ones on ebay, I need to buy some also.

RCX do a black finish as well as silver - black could look more 'sporting'... 2002MY Defender 90 H/T

Using a non-AC Nakatanenga Heritage grille on an AC equipped Defender worked well for me. The grille extends down covering the lower opening (negating the need for the original grille). I had to fold the (originally flat) aluminium grille to fit.

On request of another D2net member, i looked the part up on Nakaīs website, and couldnīt find it listed anymore (Non AC Heritage grille in silver).

Have to say that with regard to the intercooler grill they are all like that - see - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic34820....p;start=15

Was yours still under warranty?

I took mine off and had it repainted separately by the main dealer - it was covered under warranty and is now perfect. Why waste money on aftermarket parts when it can be fixed correctly fo free?

Brendan, thanks Thumbs Up .

I can thoroughly recommend this, in combination with the matching headlamp surrounds. All painted aluminium. i liked the clean classic look, and getting rid of the less than imspiring original grille has got to be a bonus. Straightening up the wings is a must, too (covered in a thread elsewhere on here).

Could you please tell us how you went about bending the grill to shape and what problems you encountered? I have found the grill but am wondering whether the corners will buckle outwards as they are bent.

Cheers.

P.S. sorry due to this being a new account I can’t PM

First thing I did when I got mine, took the grill out by drilling the rivets, electric samder to cut to good metal, 2 coats of etch primer on both sides. 2 coats of satin black. some nice M5 x 12mm button headed hex bolts from Pro Bolt - Looks great Thumbs Up
