Alarm key fob range.
What’s your alarm key fob range like?

I’ve swapped the battery and it made no difference, I’ve to be at my car and at window height to get it to disarm, and even then i sometimes have to move and press the button again.

Is it just a quirk or can I do something to improve it?

I got a new remote and the range was better, you could try that.

They are not expensive.

Mine's the same. Sometimes it surprises me & opens from a short distance away but generally I have to get really close to the front of the vehicle.

Thanks. Maybe it is normal then. I thought it was possibly faulty. I’ll need to dig out the spare to compare at the weekend, I’m just used to being able to check the car is alarmed from the house with my previous cars. I suppose, on a positive twist, I can’t accidentally disarm it from the house 👍🏼

Hold the keyfob under your chin and push the buttons and I think you will see the range improve, I sure Jeremy Clarkson did this on top gear years ago Rolling with laughter 2015 HT XS 90

There is a mod!

Pictures show a TDCi, but I believe it's the same on TD5

With mine its a lottery at to how far away it will work.

Rear near side 6" away from indicator lens.
Rear offside between 5' and next to indicator lens.
front nearside between 5' and next to passenger door.
front offside same as nearside.
front up to 20' away.

The above all depends on which way the wind is blowing. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Hank's tip above is the same for a TD5, the orange wire normally terminates behind the driver's side speaker, crimp another piece on and run it up the dash and inside the windscreen trim panel. It doubled the range on my Td5.

That said, the forehead option also works and doesn't cost anything Thumbs Up 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Mine normally only opens / locks when I'm near the truck.

In over 4 years it's not really an issue? why do you need it to unlock further.

My last 'car' and wifes current one the book can open clicking the remote form what seems like half a mile.... trouble is accidently on her car the boots been left open twice overnight when I guess the remote has been 'pressed'

It even lets you walk up tp the boot and swipe your foot under it to open (assuming the keys are on you somewhere) has this feature ever been used... Nope Smile

What I would find more useful on my truck is the device that raises the windows when you all jump out and they are partially down... Far more useful Thumbs Up

Mine is like this! Wondered if was normal or not, have to seem to be within 5 metres of the vehicle which is very different to most other cars! As pointed out above it's not really an issue, just different when you drive other vehicles regularly, it catches you out!

I will try the modification suggested above, it would be nice if l could lock my 110 without having to go round the side.

I have the standard alarm for the immobiliser, and an additional Meta HPA system to work the central locking and motion sensors, (I know, a bit overcomplicated. I installed it a long time ago, needs simplification now as its getting a bit unreliable)

Anyway- both key fobs have very poor range! Always have done. And I have the antenna draped across the dash top.
