Maybe for all you modern soundproofed guys with Pumas and later.... Very Happy

I had them in the fronts on my 300tdi for a while, and will likely give them another go, but there was no chance of my hearing them....

I wonder if they might be audible and low speeds off road?? But I'd imagine not. Lookign forward to other replies. Donald

^^ You can hear them if you jack the wheel up and rotate it slowly by hand, but when you're driving the beads aren't moving so you don't hear them.

Is it a persistent wobble? Remember with the beads that if you stop, they'll all fall to the bottom of the tyre so there is likely to be a bit of a shimmy as you start up, until the beads settle into a balanced state and it calms down. As a result, there will be some wobble now and again, but generally it will sort itself out.

As my KM2s are approaching half worn, I am starting to get a wobble now and again from the front at specific speeds, which I suspect is symptomatic of needing more beads. If you look at a part worn MT correctly rebalanced with lead weights, you would probably expect to see far more than 6-8oz of lead, so perhaps it is not surprising.

I don't think that sticking beads in means that you never again have the slightest hint of a wobble, for that you need a miracle rather than beads! Certainly though my experiences with them have made me feel that they are generally more satisfactory that fixed weights in most respects, I particularly like the way that they self adjust to rebalance as the tyre wears, which fixed weights cannot.

Don't forger also that if you still have a vibration it may not be the wheels and tyres, a failing rear propshaft can, for example, feel just like out-of-balance rear wheels.

Looks as if you can do it on your driveway, but yo'll need a valve removal tool and an air pump.

Yes, you can do it at home. You’ll need a decent compressor or at least plenty of time if a cheap one.
There isn’t any noise whilst in use.

I would check prop shaft UJ’s too, they are prone to causing issues at certain speeds.
In fact it was this that caused me to fit the Dynabeads in the first place which didn’t solve sole the issue.
The Dynabeads are great but if you have a failed UJ cup with dead bearings that will send and unbalance right back and will make you feel like there is a wheel problem.

Worse than that, on mine you couldn’t tell the UJ was screwed without the prop off however hard I tried and various places never noticed either.

Typically it’s the rear most UJ that’s the culprit, mainly due to angle as BW has suggested many time it’s a Puma thing due to the more extreme angle of prop rotation on the rear in relation to the T Box. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Interesting. My commute is about half an hour at 55mph. First 10 minutes were terrible, but then smooth as you like after that. Any thoughts?

Do you have wheel spacers fitted? I assume you have alloy wheels in any case?

If so it would be worth taking them off and making sure the hub mating faces are spotless. The smallest bit of debris can cause a mild wheel wobble at the speeds you describe.

I have dynabeads in my 255/85 BFG MTs with no other balancing and there is no wobble at all. You cant hear the beads at all in service. By nature they are only free to roll around in the tyre at very very low speed.

Got wheel spacers fitted, will double check The faces This weekend, but it was fine before the beads we’re installed. Tonight it was terrible for a couple of minutes, smooth for 5, terrible again all the way home. I’ll call dyna bead on Monday, but I also have a suspicion there could have been water in the airline I used 🤦‍♂️. Anyone experienced this?

Just spoke to the guys at dyna bead; super helpful. Thought is that I actually have too much weight on there. I’ve got 125g weights on the rims and 6oz of beads. They would recommend 6oz of beads and no weights, so I’ll mark them up, take them off and see how it is. Watch this space.

255/85/R16 KM2’s on Boosts with standard spec weight Dynabeads and balancing weights on the inside of the rim that was fitted before the Dynabeads.
