Sankey tyres
My Sankey trailer has ex mod 6.50 x 16 tyres. Looking a bit old and cracked.

Probably ok but would like to replace with more modern tyres and wheels.

If using 16” rims, say a wolf steel for instance, what size tyres would give me the same rolling dia as the original 6.50? I don’t want to raise the trailer. It has taken a lot of effort to get to tow at the correct nose down attitude.

I remember vaguely early discos on something like 215-70 x16, but not sure. Would they work.

Thoughts please.

Douglas

235/85/16 are recognised as a direct replacement for 7.50’s and almost the same diameter

They're a lot bigger than the 6.50's that the OP talks about though Confused Darren

In terms of diameter, a 235/70 is the closest. They'd be ok on Wolf rims but not on original Sankey steel wheels as they'd be too narrow. Darren

Perfect choice Thumbs Up Cool that’s why I recommended them as above ^^^ assuming the OP is on OE 235/85’s - most newer Ex Mod LR trailers Penman / Sankey type are also fitted with this size for that reason

I run my Narrow track on 205R16's and they didn't make any difference to towing height when fitted to replace the old 6.50's Used the original military rims too. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

Thanks LRA and DR. Sounds like you are closest. Yes they are 6.5 on the small rims. It’s a mk2 trailer I think. Wider but still on drum brakes.
