Xdefend pedal lock for Puma
Hi. Does anyone know exactly why the xdefend pedal lock won’t fit in a Puma?

I’m using a disklock but it is a bit of a pain to store when not in use and think the xdefend looks much more convenient.

I’m a bit surprised that there’s still no Puma version after all these years, and can’t find any info on whether it can be modified to fit.

I don’t mind a bit of hacksawing and welding, but I would have thought that if it was that simple then someone would have done it already and that there’d be a Puma version available already. Trying to decide if it’s worth the risk of buying one to offer it up & see what needs doing to it...

Yep I’ve seen that one but I like the way the xdefend is fixed to the floor so no need to find a secure place to stow it.

It locks around the top of the brake pedal. The Puma's is different (has that bulky switch box).

I believe it’s the lump in the lower dash where the brake light switch it located, is why it won’t fit. The catch that locks the pedal lock, locks to the top of the brake pedal, so on pumas, this part of the dash is in the way. When they came out, The chap at x-eng was grilled on why they hadn’t made one for the puma and his response was that they tried numerous different designs but none were up to scratch and had more weaknesses than the one for the tdi/td5 lock, so was deemed no worth it.

Ok, interesting to know that they tried to do it, and I guess it’s probably not worth me trying, though part of me still thinks that even a modified xdefend with a few gaps and the lock in a different place would be possible, and maybe be more secure than one of the removable ones. Don’t want to spend £170 finding out though.

Gents
I got mine to fit by cutting 70? mm out of it and extending one of the cutouts a bit and then getting it stuck back together so it can be done. If you or someone tame is good with stainless you should be good to go.
Let me know if you want some photos with dimensions

I always used cardboard or thin plywood for trying to make all the things that aren’t makeable Rolling with laughter

Cheaper and easier n quicker to practice with Thumbs Up

I would imagine if Simon at X eng can’t / isn’t happy with a design there’s probably a reason,

But they say you can’t re invent. A wheel ? But you cann make a nicer faster lighter different looking one Wink

I’ll get some photos up as soon as I can. I’m guessing that yes the mods I’ve done have compromised the design a bit but I took the view that it was another layer of security. If they really want the car then they’ll get it, not matter what you do, it’s been known around here for cars to be taken away by a hiab truck....

That would be great.

Agree - we’re basically just trying to discourage, delay and generally inconvenience thieves as much as we can.

Having said that, there are advantages to some of the Defender’s security weaknesses, like when I locked the keys inside (my locks are all manual) while visiting family, and was able to borrow a torx driver and pop a door off within moments.
