I would probably spec it, look at the price and go and buy a G-Class instead!

I'd like a PHEV, but as is the current way of things, they only offer that in a higher powered version, rather than a more sensible mid/low spec output.

Ive seen the P400e being labelled as a PHEV, but is it really?

"The new engine utilizes a 48-volt electrical system and a small 0.2-kWh lithium-ion battery to drive a motor-generator, which delivers nearly seamless engine restarts from the standard stop-start system. A regenerative braking system recaptures energy and feeds it to the battery. This mild-hybrid system, however, does not enable driving on electric-only power."

Article also is pretty damning on the engine as a whole Sad

Hi,

I have a P400e RRS and can confirm that it has a 12.4KW battery and a range of about 40K (as well as a 296hp 2L petrol engine). In my case about 35K with hills etc. Just arrived into work after a 26.5k rural and city dive and the app says that I did 1.4l/100 km. Not bad, but will be running on petrol on the way home I'd say as I haven't got a convenient charger nearby.

48v system is labelled a “mild” hybrid and every JLR product will have it eventually, except any BEV version and the PHEV - the mild hybrids are basically what you get in most Toyotas. You can already by Evoque and Discovery Sport as mild hybrids. I have been running a PHEV for 15 months and while the range is somewhat short of what is claimed (just like mpg is overstated for 99.99% of ICE vehicle) and drops by a further 30% or more when it gets colder, in the time i’ve Owned it I have filled the 35ltr petrol tank 7 times....... whereas my last RRS SDv6 needed feeding with 85 ltrs of derv every 10 days. I have the added advantage that, in Scotland, in exchange for £20pa I have unlimited access to public chargers operated by Chargepoint Scotland, I also utilise my FIT from my solar array on my house roof to charge my battery, that unlike the JLR PHEVs needs only a 13amp socket for 3 hours to do a full recharge / 26 miles range.

Tashkurgan, I would be interested to hear your views on whether the 2.0ltr petrol turbo is really up to the job of hauling the weight of an RRS along. I’ve heard it is only just powerful enough but that it us also quite a noisy engine when operating in petrol only / ICE mode. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I think all the new generation JLR engines regardless have the mild hybrid 48v system now. The P400 e is a true PHEV with a larger (chargeable) battery and can rune in Pure EV mode. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Thanks chaps for putting me right - re-read the article and it's just the P400 not the P400e - my bad.
