The oil pictures are very worrying, hope you get resolution with the garage and that there isn’t any damage to your defender by the garages negligence. 2015 HT XS 90

Wow, beyond the colour, it looks like if the oil has been contaminated by another liquid Shocked

Maybe you should keep an oil sample in order to make an oil analysis. Based on traces of metals in it, the results would tell you whether damages occurred or not (hopefully). This might also be a piece of evidence if needed.

The oil that came out of the mt82 looked fine. No issues there apart from too much of it.

It's the oil from the lt230 which is the worry. It was filled to level with the filler plug as per procedure, no issues there. I kept a sample of the oil that came back to send to Ashcroft if required.

Probably drop the lt230 oil again soon and see what state it's in again.

The magnetic plug in the lt230 was pretty "hairy" when I pulled it out.. very fine particles rather than anything chunky though.

If it's a recon unit, I'd imagine that's fairly normal until 'run in'. I'm sure that Ashcrofts will be able to advise, though. Darren

the additional 1.5ltrs of oil came out of the main box and looked fine - those photos above of the weird looking oil came from the LT230 that was filled to spec.... the transfer is a new recon with ATB.

about to email ashcroft but I think it might be an assembly lube or similar they use?? fingers crossed/positive thinking....

Ashcroft confirmed that the 1st oil change will look pretty rough - this is due to the ATB being fitted so I assumr its bedding in.

I'll drop it again after another 300miles or so and see what it looks like and post back.

Of note though - if you have fitted an ATB to your transfer box then I'd be doing a fair few oil changes pretty sharpish rather than leaving it for a year or two!

The ATB uses friction to work, so that makes sense.
