Lovely base vehicle worth about 13 to 15k as a soft top

All the cheap extras like tyres spots winch bumpers need to be removed ideally

No way that’s worth 23k

The Disco3 and Freelander look expensive too. 04' 90 Td5 CSW..

Regardless of price, taste and bling someone thought that this forum would be a good place to sell a defender. They paid for an advert ( with a little prompt and I understand that ) but you only have to look at this thread and it would make you think twice about advertising something for sale on this forum.

Why??
I do not see any derogatory remarks or spiteful comments, just opinions.
DEF2 is the friendliest, most helpful forum on the interweb IMO. 04' 90 Td5 CSW..

I actually do not think this forum is the right place to advertise a Tricked up version of the cars we 'know' so much about.

Generally we are fairly clued up and how much a big set of steel wheels, snorkel, bull bar, some leds and a Winch cost.......the sum of the parts does not equal the price Shocked

I believe this truck will sell to a person passing it or seeing it on ebay, autotrader and not wanting to do any work or knowing how to.... its done. It's a great looking fun truck for the beach or weekend, towing a boat etc.

The price is at best a starting point anyway. It's all negotiable Thumbs Up

For what it's worth, I have no issue with people advertising Defenders on here, it can be to all our benefit.

However, if you choose to advertise a vehicle in a community of people who know a great deal about Defenders, your vehicle will inevitably come under intense scrutiny. If you are not prepared for that, then don't advertise here.

Although several of the comments made in this thread, including mine, may seem critical, it is also useful for the prospective purchaser to be aware of issues that they may face. You would, for example, probably be quite grumpy if you were to buy a vehicle believing it to be legal and roadworthy and whilst driving home get stopped and then prosecuted for driving an illegal and unroadworthy vehicle. Know the potential issues and being able to make an informed decision protects both the buyer and the seller.

The bottom line is that if you don't want any interaction, comment, criticism, or feedback except prospective purchasers knocking on your door, then don't advertise on an interactive medium. If you advertise here, don't be surprised by it.

Incidentally I am not aware that the OP has expressed any concern about the discussion, and my comments here are not intended to be a criticism of anyone contributing to this thread or to the current owner, or OP. Just an opinion, that's all.

Bps,
Just to look at it another way, I feel a tad insulted by such an advert. Overpriced by around 10k if i’m honest. If I was that far out on something that I was trying to sell, i’d Expect to be told so.
You’re dean on, this forum is mostly friendly, extremely friendly compared to some, but if you try to take the Censored , expect a bit of a ribbing.

Guys

First of all absolutely no offence taken on the comments or views aired with regard to the defender whatsoever, this is a great forum and I have no problem with this thread whatsoever.

I have advertised it for a friend, I feel it is overpriced but he felt it was a reasonable price so I placed the advert for him and I thought why not advertise it here.

Greeni it didn’t just get roasted it got totally cremated Rolling with laughter

I totally understand Stacy007 view point and fair comments with regard to this.

Bows I’m sorry you feel a tad insulted Rolling with laughter

Blackwolf I appreciate your input and the points you have raised all of which I have learnt something from so thankyou.

Bps I don’t think anyone meant any offence, I just think trying to sell such a “tricked” defender as one poster fairly called it to diehards and defender fans was always going to attract strong views.

I haven’t taken any offence in anyway to any of the comments here.

I would appreciate some idea of realistic value to go back to the vendor to give him so guidance.

If that was up for £12k (even then i’d say £2k overpriced, but appreciate there’s a market premium for Defenders) I’m sure there would be nothing but flowers and best wishes.

I’m sure a newbie would be ecstatic to own it, even at £20+k .....

Fit some Kahn body kit parts, wrap a washing line round the bonnet, say it was used in a Bond film but didn't make it through the editing suite, then add a 0 to the end of the price and advertise it in London Rolling with laughter

I'm quite sure if he brought approx £30K in a Tesco bag (other supermarkets are available) and his 'lightly modified' truck I would maybe swap............

HEAR HEAR
Makes me think twice about posting any more of the (some might say) mad modifications i make to my three as clearly the modification of our landys seems to be frowned upon here now reading this thread. It would appear that all of the responders are all angels where it comes to tinklering with theirs and would rather point out faults than offer assistance. Glass houses, stones and all that. Criticism is very easy.

Reminds me of the time I took my 32 ford to a show, all the people that came us and told me it should be running crossplies , how the suspension was wrong and that I should take fenders off. Having spent years building it, when asked where theirs was the reply was “oh I haven't got one”

How easy would it be to point out some previous sale examples to helpfully set the price point as opposed to criticising everything in a very unhelpful way.
