Actually they do. HID headlights require washers and must be self-levelling. The fact that yours passed an MOT doesn't make them legal, it just raises questions about the MOT, and if genuinely factory-fitted questions about EWVTA or IVA compliance.

The EGR deletion is also illegal now too, and if the cat was factory fitted its removal is too. Oh dear!

It is an eye-catching vehicle though, that can't be denied.

Not aware of any JDM vehicle with factory HID's that have washers so cant just be my MOT guy, and in actual fact both vehicles have previously been MOT'd by A.N. others so they must all be 'wrong'.........

Fit wider flares, LED headlights in place of the HIDs, and keep quiet about the exhaust and you have a winner!

It doesn't need much.

Assuming you mean Japanese Domestic Market, presumably the vehicles have been IVA'd on import and that's when it should be picked up. Inadequate HID conversion only became an MOT test failure last year so you may be in for a shock next time.

You may want to have a read of this https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/doc.../class3457

Section 4.1.4 makes it clear that it has, since 2018, been a mandatory major defect if the lights are HID and either have no levelling or have no cleaning system.

Reading through that (section 4.1.5 and 4.1.6), it suggests that what you say is true 'if fitted' Confused Presumably, if JDM vehicles don't have them fitted as standard and they've passed the appropriate import inspection, they're good to go.

The one thing that is categorically illegal is converting an existing headlight to HID, which is clear in 4.1.4. Darren
