Thank you all above for the excellent information and advice.
I'll definitely convert to the two nut solution if I find it's not been done already. As it's been said it's a no brainer. Why on earth did Landrover change to a staked nut I've no idea. It's not like the hub and discs will never need any maintenance. The engineer probably received a bonus for saving 20p per car.
The caliper bolts are definitely 12 point and I do have a set of these socketa. The main reasons for this job is to replace the pitted and scored disks and to fit new calipers as I have corrosion and sticking pistons. "You are never to old to learn something new"

I think that’s it. Single nut and spacer is easier for production line assembly. Then the rest of the time a PITA

I normally re-pack the bearings and stick a hub seal in when I do them, for how little it costs.

You don't need circlip pliers, leave the shaft on the drive member as they will be two piece. And just remove both together. Cheers
