Borbet CW Alloys 8x16 - advice and weight supported
Hello, I have a Defender 110 TD5 equipped for the trip. When empty, it weighs 1260kg at the front and 1550kg at the rear (measured at the technical control).
Currently, I have 7x16 Modular Mangels rims that support a load of 1134 kg / wheel with KM2 tires in 255/85 r16.
I would have changed rims, I love the Mach 5 Maxtrack but yesterday I came across another rim that I like a lot.

This is the Borbet CW Black Matt 8x16. Only after a search, I realize that it supports a load of 925 kg. Since my Defender, when loaded for the trip, weighs more than the weight of the technical control, I wonder if the weight supported by this rim is not too fair.

Is the 925 kg a static weight of the vehicle? 4 x 925 kg = 3,700 kg in this case it should be ok. Or does it take into account the dynamic weight of the Defender (Braking, cant and mass transfer) in which case it may be a bit fair.

Finally, for those who poced these wheels, what is your opinion, your feedback (balancing, resistance ...).

Thanks for your help.

Max load is per rim. This being said: you will be fine, since the max load per axle won’t exceed the max load of two rims.

That leaves me 150 kg per wheel, I think also that in static weight it should have gone, but I imagined that in dynamic weight on a cant, the weight is transferred on one side or the other and I do not have no idea of the mass on each wheel at that moment.

If not Fred95 you have these rims? you're happy? would you have a picture of your Def with these rims?

Thank you Fred for the photos, your Defender is beautiful. If I translated your site, I understand that you have re-paint your CW Alloys rims in 2011. The original paint rims was fragile because you had them in 2009 and it seems little 2 years.

I bought them in silver. At this time, this was the only available color from the factory.

I let them powder coat in black. Not a regular paint.

The powder coat did not stick around the valves. I got them re-coated. I believe even three times within ten years.

The rims or Borbet are not to blame for that; only my stupid powder coater.

Other than that: I recommend them. Relatively low weight (appr. 10 kg), perfectly round, easy to balance, easy to clean.

This is not, how you do the math (compare total weight against max rim load x 4).

You have to compare the maximum allowed weight per axle and compare it against max rim load x 2.

Maximum allowed weight according to your registration documents. Not actual weight. This must not exceed the max allowed weight anyway, or the police stops your car. The dynamic weight is irrelevant. At least for legal requirements.

But if you watch the details: car manufactureres always apply a 20% safety premium on their original wheels and tires, when it comes to max load. I don't know, whether this can be contributed to the fact, that they pay attention to dynamic load, or are just careful. However, this is NOT a legal requirement.

I had done the math for a single axle. 925 - (1550/2) = 150 kg. but actually if it is the static weight these rims are ok compared to the maximum weight of the rear axle of the Defender Station Wagon (1750 kg). in any case if you only find good for these rims, it will motivate me lol. I only hope to find a professional able to properly balance 255/85 r16, the last time I had my tires up, it was catastrophic, I had to do two tires mounting centers.
