Just to provide closure to this thread, here are some comparison photos of the three alternative centre diffs

Top photo left to right is an Ashcroft ATB, a standard LR diff as used on the vast majority of LT230, a genuine LR diff used for approximately the last two years .

Me. Ugh Rolling Eyes

What the hell. Just ... what the hell.

Big Cry

Do we know if it is possible to identify which transfer boxes contain this cheese monstrosity? EG - by T-box number? ---

I'm not sure, by my 2016 case had a G as the last letter which was not listed on the Ashcroft site as a possibility, but they did not say anything when I spoke with them to order the new one.

Not that I am aware of, but JLR probably knows better (but won't tell).

If you read Dave Ashcroft's post (last post, page 1 of this thread) he says that the value-engineered unit was used for about the last two years of production, and on that basis I reckon up to MY2014 you probably have the original pattern, and MY2015 and later you probably want to put an Ashcroft ATB on your Christmas list.

Thanks. I'm not sure when mine was built but the first owner bought it in May 2015, so probably early 2015 build date. Sounds like it's the cheese version. Ah well - the Tdi gets nearly all the proper off road use, so it'll live for a while. I don't know of major problems with people here breaking them, but I'll ask around. ---

The cheese ones actually seem to work fine and last ok on vehicles with normal, domestic type use.
