eBay diesel heaters
I’ve had a mooch round eBay and this site but can’t find the answer. I’ve been looking at the MUD heater box to fit in the centre of my 90. It says it takes 2kw heaters such as webasto , eberspacher and most Chinese copies. It gives a height of 140mm externally. But all the eBay heaters I’ve seen show a height of 140mm - 160mm from the base plate. Has anyone on here actually fitted one or just own one that could take a measurement for me. This is just for the 2kw versions

ebay diesel heater
With ebay diesel heaters be careful, some claim to be Planar, Webasto etc but they are nit. They are also not approved as vehicle heaters.

The Nakatanenga heater box for Planar/Webasto heaters is 160mm external height and is designed to fit where the cubby box in a Defender normally sits. Complete Defender kits including Planars available here

Thanks for that. Bit of a pain though. Too big for the mud heater locker. DON'T PANIC

I probably could. But I have the raptor engineering cubby and the arm rest would be far too high. I’ll have a rethink about installation. Out of interest, how are you getting on with your heater and where did you fit it? DON'T PANIC

Fitted in back of my 110 after removing 3rdrow seats

Not got it connected atm as not that cold and re jigging the rear

Over winter I used it a lot on the timer 30 minutes on before I went to work and it was warm inside and fully defrosted

Brought a 5 litre diesel tank rather than the 10 which fit in the landy much better

Will be moving it to undersecond rowseats when I do my conversion

Easy to fit and pretty good on fuel used about 1.5 litres in7 days when on defrosting and that included 30 mins before I went home from work to

Definately a great addition I gotmine of eBay £138 with digital/manual/remote controllers only used the digital and remote which onceyou get the hang of programming it pretty easy 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

Just fitted one to my 110 (https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic66584.html).

It works great. The Chinese ones off ebay, amazon, aliexpress etc come in 2 sizes - 2kw or 5kw. The 2kw are pretty much like for like with eberspaher / webasto. The 5kw ones are bigger.

There is a facebook group for them, with pages and pages of technical know how, how to change the fueling settings, which parts interchange and all sorts.

For the price they are really good and shows just how much you're getting ripped off with a webasto or eberspacher (in fact both were fined for price fixing)!

Wow, so they did !

''Parking heaters (COMP 40055 – 17 June 2015)
– The Commission fined producers of parking heaters –€68 million (settlement)
– Two German companies involved Eberspächer and Webasto
– No fine imposed on Webasto – leniency applicant
– Allegation of coordination of prices and allocation of
customers with regard to fuel-operated parking heaters and auxiliary heaters
– 10 years of collusion (2001 to 2011)''

Have they stopped the price fixing??

I have an Eberspacher myself but the price of parts is just not worth it. You can buy 2 new Chinese complete heater kits for just a new Eberspacher blower assembly. You can buy 3-4 new Chinese ones for the price of a new Eberspacher ECU.

If you treat the Chinese units as disposable then you are really not out of pocket. They are fine.

I have for the record had the unpleasant experience of having to deal with a Planar as well and I rate it much lower than any of the Chinese units I've seen. The Planar works as such but the controls are right hateful. Much prefer the Chinese units.
