just out of interest ..
You don’t have both sets of keys with you and close together when you try and start ... there is something that stops the vehicle starting if the 2 fobs are close to the wheel binnacle when turning the key... if so, put the other one in the back somewhere before you start..

Hi Wyvern

I do have both sets with me, but one is always remote and away from the truck......learned that last year when it broke down with the same issue, I think it is sorted now though, seems bo be the immobiliser circuit through the cluster, am making the snip this morning to bypass the cluster.

Ok snip done and just twisted and taped at the moment, and managed to drive to the coast successfully. Martin, ??is the fix a stable fix ie it’s safe to drive and not in a critical state at all? 2008 TDCi 2.4 XS CSW

JD the fix is fine yes Smile

Only if the twisted wires come apart will you have the same issue again. Get something to join them when you can Mr. Green  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Day 2 of fix.......many starts and stops..... Very Happy

I know it sounds silly, but its such a relief when I turn that key and the engine starts.....

Especially in France with a Wife and Boxer dog in remote places.......

I know just what you mean, and completely agree.

Not long after I bought my Defender it went into randomly-not-starting mode and it really gets on your nerves (literally) when you don't know what will happen when you turn the key, especially when you have a SWMBO who doesn't really understand the appeal of the Defender with you.

Out of interest what was the reason for your non starts?

OK more news........Went to get off the ferry yesterday and once again, no start.......bypass was still good, so something else is the cause.....random Censored around or luck it started about 45 mins later after delaying the vehicles from departing off the ferry.....Drove home fine, this morning its again a non starter, 4 turns then nothing. Nanocom says 2 interesting things, P1602 Immobiliser communication error and B1a75 Fuel sender 1 circuit not testedGeneral electrical failure. Is the P1602 error being reported because its bypassing the dash possible Martin, or is the AS10 unit intermittent.

I think the original fault was there, because as soon as I poked the bridge into the multiple it started, that would be a strong coincidence if it wasn't, but obviously there is another issue I am assuming immobiliser, but really have no idea, 4 turns with no fire then sometimes completely dead if I turn to starter position, remove key from ignition and then try again and it turns 4 times, no fire.

Done nothing since yesterday and it starts OK this evening.........

OK here's a bizarre theory, I know some people have said both key fobs in the landy can prevent starting, but can it really immobile the vehicle for 12/24 hours? Is there a jamming duration before the immobiliser allow the vehicle to be started again? Both times this truck has failed is when I have given the spare fob/keys to SWMBO and she has plonked them in her bag which is quite near the ignition.

That is the only common thing in both non starting that I can think of apart from Ferry bumps and ramps.

Thoughts ? 2008 TDCi 2.4 XS CSW

I’m not sure having both sets of keys would have that effect and the only reason I say that is every time I take mine to the main dealers for warranty work I always take my spare keys with me to leave with them and have never had that problem.

I have just taken mine to the main dealers today for warranty work with both sets of keys and didn’t have any problems starting from home, stopping to get fuel, going to a shop then going to the main dealers so plenty of stop starts.

Good luck trying to get to the crux of the problem 2015 HT XS 90
