It doesn't, which is why thieves can crane them onto lorries without the alarm sounding.

If you lock barrel is seized then you can pull on the internal door release and lock the doors by pressing the peg down. Then unlock with the fob on return.

However I lock mine with the fob on ferries with no issue as above
