Overfilling Transfer Box - does it do damage?
Today I thought I would replace the oil in my transfer box with some FUCHS TITAN RACE SYN 5. So on the face of it a pretty simple job for an hour or so.

However when I cracked open the filler plug (behind the hand brake drum) about a litre of oil drained out! Hit me square in the middle of the chest! Rolling with laughter

The previous owner or whoever serviced it last must have filled it at the top! And filled it right to the top!

So I was wondering. Could this do the box damage? I could see a fair bit of metal swarf on the magnetic drain plug.

Any thoughts guys?

if its not pressurised it and made it blow a seal, which you would of noticed, then no. it will be fine. LT230 must be the most reliable part of any LR. Cheers

Maybe the seal between the main gearbox was leaking

^^^ Not possible on a Puma.

(Well, the seal can leak but oil can't get into the transfer box.)
