I did this too. I felt it was a great improvement. I may have some pictures too somewhere.

The parts didn't come to £45 I'm sure - the only bit that seemed expensive was the silly plastic bush!

I'm suprised that you Td5 people actually need to fit these springs... my (factory) 300Tdi from 1996 had one as standard, and then my Td5 110 (2001) also had it.

Pretty much every other clutch pedal box (Td5 era) i've seen for same has had one fitted.

unless there was a batch that never did? Question Question

I did the clutch pedal mod yesterday, bit of a fiddley buggar to do, but christ, what an improvement!
Well worth doing, makes the action alot lighter.

I had to undo the bolt securing the pedal to the master cylinder to get the spring in place, not a hard job just very fiddley, took me around an hour.

The parts were £45 from Britpart, the little U shaped plastic bush was £19, what a rip off!

The pedal in my 1990 110 (not a td5 but TD) is also stiff. Is this article specific to the TD5 only. I note the picture on the first page covers from 1986.

If you look at the drawing i posted on the other page, you are looking for a u shaped cut out on the pedal stem and a bracket behind this with two hols on either side to place the bushes on, if you have these i guess its a goer.

Doubt any major mods have been done on these parts.

I'm going to do this mod. Has anyone got the part numbers and details for the accelarator pedal mod too as I find this also has a lot of resistance. Andy

There are no parts required for throttle pedal mod. It is just a case of drill hole, and relocating spring into it.

I did the modification to the clutch pedal on my 110 today, although it wasn't the easy but fiddly task that some have found. No amount of pushing, twisting, forcing and cursing could get the new spring into place. In the end, I resorted to disconnecting the clutch pedal from the master cylinder, after which it popped into place quite easily. Disconnecting the pedal took minutes and if I'd done that from the outset, I'd have saved myself a lot of time and frustration Rolling Eyes

Still, done now and the difference is incredible. It's much more driveable, particularly in traffic, and saves my old knee from a lot of grief Very Happy Darren

Just ordered the parts there now, God I only found this website the otherday and many of the niggly little things that annoy me in my defender-the cures are posted here Very Happy
Thanks for this thread as the extremely heavy clutch on my current TD5 drives herself mad on a long journey Wink
Cheers
