Single din recommendations

Hi all,

Currently use a Kenwood DAB single din but it does not have Bluetooth built in to use a phone handsfree.
I would love to have a new head unit that has both DAB and a decent handsfree phone system.
I'm not totally against a flip out single din but am not convinced completely.
As much as I would love a double din, I can't quite stretch to the extra costs involved.

What do you recommend?
After a very quick search I came across Kenwood kdc-bt730dab - but the reviews weren't very good online.

Many thanks.

I changed to a Pioneer DEH-X7800DAB last year. Sound quality is better and you can turn off the silly animations easy enough.
I've not used the Spotify bit, nor have I been able to make the App work (don't care about that), but much happier than with the factory fitted without spending a fortune.
Minor irritations so far are the handsfree mic being a different plug size to the standard fitting and the lack of auto brightness (though you can turn off the display).

Bluetooth is very good so far, but still limited to only remembering 3 devices. iPhone integration has looked good on friends' iPhones, but not used it myself (I have an Android). Handfree quality is very good.

I'm a bit wary of any music related reviews online as so much depends upon your requirements. Someone may wish to spend £500 on a music player in their car, but not me!

At the weekend I installed the new Landrover Classic Infotainment single DIN
Excellent DAB reception - even with the standard aerial
Very quick Bluetooth pairing with phones
Good quality Phone reception
Also has a small SatNav - excellent quality but the small screen is not ideal - not the main reason to buy this player
The sat nav is good if you mainly listen to the commands

I know people will say its too expensive and the screen is too small - but lets face it - we all drive Defenders which are expensive, not totally practical or reliable - but we still l love them Very Happy

Clarion nz502e. It had satnav/ reverse camera, rear media zone. Fold out screen. Bluetooth & aux.

I believe it’s now discontinued.

The prices dropped rapidly when it became end of line, but is now highly sought after.

RRP was about £700.00
End of line was £300.00 or £400.00
Now it’s about £800.00

Not really worth that money unless you use satnav all the time or got it end of line prices. Defender Drag racer & achiever of "How is that possible" speed

I also have a Pioneer DEH-X7800DAB, I fitted it last night.

I've turned off as many of the animations as I can work out how to turn off but it's still got some, and you can't get it to display both bluetooth information (signal strength and battery) at the same time as DAB signal strength.

The bluetooth seems to work well, the DAB is decent quality but only seems to be able to pick up the BBC from half way along my commute which is is annoying. I need to fiddly with the aerial. The FM reception is much better than the Sony (?) unit I had in previously.

Despite not having a CD player the Pioneer is still full length which surprised me. I haven't actually managed to get it to sit properly in the dash yet.

I have the same, but it has a CD player! I found it a snug fit too.

Thanks all. This gives me some options to have a closer look at when I finish work.

Any others to take a look at?

What Aerial do you have standard? Diu Vivo Magna Britannia!

Watts ÷ Volts = Amps.
Amps X Volts = Watts

I wanted the same as the OP, an upgrade without spending a fortune, even with soundproofing my defender drowns out the music at speed! My solution is to wear ear buds and listen to my phone music on long journeys.
However I wanted to improve the very basic Land Rover cd/radio, one option I looked at was the pioneer sph 10bt, available from Halfords for 109 pounds, decent reviews.
In the end I went for a Alpine cde 133bt, a “used take out” from a defender, I like to use LR upgrade parts on my vehicle as I feel that it’s “in keeping”.
Very pleased with the results, easy to fit, one out and one in. I now have all the original features plus improved sound, blue tooth for calls and music.
Maybe another option for the OP to consider? Time is precious, waste it wisely...

It doesn't have Dab unfortunately. This is something I've gotten used to now and would like to keep. Thank you though.

I’m about to remove my clarion... going 2x din, it’s actually a warranty replacement, 2 months of use old...

If you’d like to pm me a offer... it’s a great unit ideally I bet my 2x din to be exactly the same but just prefer the look of 2x din

I'm still not sold on the aesthetics of a flip out. Does that unit not have DAB also?
