Rear shock washer orientation
So I've just started upgrading my shocks to bilstein to go with my softer springs. All to aid a better ride and better handling.

When I removed the original rear shocks the washers were such so that the dome was pressing agains the bushes. I've fitted the bilsteins with the washers the same way but I just wanted to check with everyone that that's right. The bilstein instruction leaflet shows them all different ways according to your figment so I was 100% sure.

Thanks

Original as I took them off...

I've fitted them the same as the LR shocks

Yes you're right, the domed surface goes against the rubber bush, otherwise it 'cups" the bushes against the mount and seriously restricts the flex, end result, the top of the shocker canister flexes instead where the bolt is welded on which breaks off after a while. (Don't ask me how I know Embarassed )

Is that blood on the new shock in the 2nd picture? Knuckle rash today perhaps?

I also did this job yesterday. Bit of a mind boggle getting all the cups the right way around. The fitting instructions were as much use as my 1 year old.

The top mount washer on the rear has the curved side towards the chassis and the flat side out toward the nut.

Didn't you contemplate changing the turrets when you changed everything over? The top is a lovely water trap on the standard turrets. When I done mine I fitted D44 h/d turrets. No rust traps.

I did contemplate it yes. I just thought Iā€™d assess the condition of the standards and for 7 years old living in Cornwall they were pretty good. Will change them at some point. Probably when I upgrade the springs. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html

I have D44 turrets too, in Matt black. They are very good combined with the HD turret rings.

As mentioned above worth thinking about at a later date. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ā›½ļøšŸ›¢ļøšŸ‘Øā€šŸ”§šŸ§°āš™ļø RED, WHITE & BOOST! šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§
