1984 Factory Soft Top.
First time I've seen another Sept '84 factory soft top like mine (except this is a diesel) on eBay.

It's no looker and its MOT history is chequered, but it's reasonably cheap and might (ought to) sell even cheaper.

Could be a punt, instead of scratching your nice new Defender on a green lane, or converting it to a soft top?

I don’t think it’s a factory soft top, has had a rear door at some stage, evidence the tie down points are added later (rivets not painted), I’m fairly confident she started life as a hard top

Would tend to agree with Jeremy on that point, but not necessarily because the rivets aren't painted but because of the pair of holes for the lower hinge. This is the second time this has popped up on eBay that I have seen & there is a lot of work needed to get it in a reasonable condition - bulkhead is shot, corrosion evident in body panels as well as doors, chassis probably not much better although ad says it has had a lot replaced in the last 10 years, evidence of bodging from the snorkel to the chequer plate on the bulkhead, etc. Personally I'd swerve this one, there are better examples out there.

To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a factory one (that’s not military anyway) or much later.

Well I actually washed mine today. Was so surprised to see it clean that I took a picture. Rolling with laughter

I think you've seen mine before Jeremy. Sept '84, 2.25 petrol soft top from new I believe, as there are no marks or holes for anything else to have been fitted.(I've had two rivet counters inspect it! Laughing )

The son of the first owner said his dad bought it to tow a boat to the South of France, hence the soft top, comfy County seats and repeaters in the front wings for those French motorways.
