NATO hitch and questions
Well, as I sold my trailer through lack of use, I have removed my towpack as it is one less thing to worry about getting snagged up.

I do still want some form of recovery point on the back of my vehicle though, so I have refurbished my old NATO hitch and plan to attach it to the back of the rear cross member.

I intend to use the adjustable mounting plate from my towpack (the U-shaped piece) to act as a spreader plate and then use 4 bolts to mount the hitch through the spreader plate and through my rear cross member. I would however like to know what bolts I will need to do this? They look like M10.

I would also like to know if anyone would have any concerns doing any recovery offroad with this setup? I used to use my towpack quite successfully, but as I say, no longer require its attachment to my vehicle.

Thanks

Should have said it is going on an 06 plate 90 td5. There appears to be threads behind all 6 holes in the rear cross member at the moment.

Thanks

Hi Landy nut

I wondered the same when i did the same to my 90 (2002 TD5). But chose to make my own spreader plate. (You can get them from a main dealer).

The reason i did not was that you or a friend may cut themselves on the edges of the 'U shape' spreader plate whilst setting up for a recovery.

I did not try it but it may restrict the rotation of the NATO hitch.

Hope that helps you

Cheers

Mark
