The switches appear to do different things on different models of their tachos. On later models there is a single calibration switch (number Cool and the other 7 switches configure the pulses per rev of the input.

This makes sense given what the guys have said above about switches 1 and 2 being set to "ON" along with switch 8 "ON" by default.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Clive that picture of you reading the ecu where it says tachometer : enabled. Is that a function you can enable/disable or is it always enabled?

No, it appears to be permanently enabled, certainly can't change it with the Nanocom. I believe it's written into the basic ECU configuration.

I also had two wires left over, the sama as Clive; a red and a red/blue. About these two wires, there is nothing mentioned in the fitting instruction.

Hi, just bought a CIA rev counter from Rimmers.
I saw all the problems that everyone was having & thought that I had better test it before taking apart the dashboard.
The rev counter goes full sweep to test , but has no pulse.

I will email CAI telling them they're wrong after them telling me there is no need for a pull up.

Maybe you don't need it on vehicles with abs but vehicles without definitely do need it.
