Replacing TD5 fuel filter bracket and protection kit | |
I need to replace the fuel filter bracket and protective cover as mine is currently held on with mastic and cable ties, it was like that when I bought it back in March. I just changed the filter, and said I would do it a bit later!!!!
I am now running out of things to do on the defender and I have purchased a new mount and protective housing, it must be coming up next on the list.
The problem is, I think the expression is I’m being a bit of a feline about starting it as I see loads of posts about TD5 fuel system problems and I don’t want to screw its up as I’m newish to Land Rover / home mechanic world. Is this best left to a garage?
My plan was
1) Jack up the rear side and remove the wheel.
2) Clean off all dirt from the mount and pipes
2) Unscrew the actual filter from the bottom
3) Remove the 4 pipes going from and to the filter, making a note which one is which.
4) Temporarily seal off the 4 pipes.
5) Remove the broken bracket and clean the chassis.
6) Spray the area with a bit of anti rust for good measure.
7) Fix the 4 pipes onto the new filter bracket.
Mount the bracket back onto the chassis.
9) Put the filter onto the bottom (can I re-used the old filter as its only fine about 30 Miles of work)
10) Install the new protective filter cover.
11) Turn the key to position 2 for second and then turn off three times to prime the filter.
I just lack the faith!
