My Breakdown, any advice? Anyone with Nanocom in N.Essex?
OK, so we drove to Scotland on Thursday. Stopped a couple of times on the at up, vehicle as running perfectly (Defender Td5, re-mapped), I noticed during the last quarter of the journey that the red led immobiliser light on the speedo started to flash, vehicle as still running fine so I didn't think too much of it but thought it as strange as I'd never noticed it before.
Got to Gretna and thought I'd fill up ready for the net day, after filling could not re-start the engine.
Dash lights all come on, but literally nothing hen you turn the key.

Had RAC man out, tried for about to ours to get me going, checked fuses, relays etc. put a wire across the starter motor and it would spin and fire up but not run.
Tried a bump start, fired but wouldn't run.

On the RAC man's suggestion called out an auto locksmith, he apparently recoded the blipper but to be honest I'm not sure. The blipper will lock and unlock the doors and will also turn off the led immobiliser light but the car won't start.
The immobiliser doesn't seem to me like it's behaving correctly now though. Sometimes I' getting a solid red light and it looks like it will re-arm with the ignition on.

I'm hopefully getting the vehicle recovered back to Essex this week, what I'd like to do is get the immobiliser removed completely, is this possible? I'm thinking at least this will rule out that as the problem?

Any other suggestions?

Hello Crossfit_Pete

Assuming you have the AS10 Lucus Alarm / Immobiliser fitted,
then try this Guy (Paul Brown) who knows this unit well, what are the common problems,
and how (if possible) to fix them.

I have not use him but he was very helpful with me when I thought this unit was possibly
involved with a non-starting problem (it turned out not to be) but I would give him ago
if I thought the unit really was a fault.

Have you tried changing the battery in the fob?

The other expert in 10AS units is Dan Padmore at Pace Automotive in Peterborough.

Good luck. James

1. make shore earthing all good, battery neg, chassis to transfer box driver side chassis to body work earth strap also under driver seat check earth point at the bottom of the box

2. are your interior lights work properly with drivers door switch as alarm ecu used this for more than one operation
3. do have coil transponder fitted with alarm, if not alarm unit set up for arm a and dis arm changed from default set up and you will get getting a solid red light with driver door open Question

I think they were checked.
If it was something like the fuel pump relay wouldn't it turn over on the key though?

I finally managed to get the vehicle recovered back home, still not working but at least I can investigate further.
One thing I have noticed is that opening and closing the drivers door seems to have an affect on the red LED in the speedo, I don't remember this happening before the breakdown?
I noticed there is a bodged repair of a broken wire (see picture), do you think this could be related?
