Roof rack on or off?
New paint job on Tank looks good. Black roof, arches and rear door sorted!

Question though, do I put the Flat Dog roof rack back in???

Save fuel. Only put it on when you need it.

And less road noise. Also if you ever go in height-restricted car parks it's a few less cm to worry about Thumbs Up Matt.

I took mine off once and proceeded to need it every week.

However if I didn't use it so much I'd take it off. For height and fuel saving reasons!

As said above, how often do you use it?
How much hassle is there fitting it and storing it when you're not using it?

Mine is on permanently,

The fuel/noise difference is pretty minimal and its too useful not to have it on for standing on/carrying long stuff/rooftent

Mine is on permanently.
Partly because it's a Brownchurch and takes 6 people to lift it on and more so these days because it gets used quite a bit and is rapidly becoming an antenna farm. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Not used mine since putting it back on and my son cocked it up and scratched the side of the roof when putting it back, plus the clamps cracked the paint on the gutter channels on my last 2007 Defender and they rusted and I never noticed until it was pretty bad.
I gave it away to a member of this forum.

You can take roof racks off? Shocked

Mine on permanent, half due to being too lazy to take it off and half due to the fact.... you never know when you might need it! Mr. Green Chris

Lots of mention of the roof-rack being 'useful to stand on'. Not sure what you all get up to unless I have missed the point of Defender ownership Whistle

Ignoring practical and fiscal reasons, (as we all know, Defender ownership is neither about practicality nor frugality), I think 90s look nicer without. Monsieur Le Grenadier

In the Series days (Birmabright) you could stand on the roof without a rack.

i used to take mine on and off as i needed it. in the end as vehicles is used mainly at 50mph max for majority of runs when roofrack is not needed i gave up as it made no difference to fuel economy running at those speeds over the 40k miles of testing on/off comparisons. Cheers
