Yeah, not so keen on that, to be honest. I want to be able to push it in from one end without having to think about whether the pointy end has found its' mark. If it becomes a big issue then I may revisit the tube but I'm not too concerned. Darren

I was out and about yesterday and managed to snap this view that I think looks pretty cool. Roof bars back on, as I'm transporting my Ozpod for the last time tomorrow.

Next up was another small step towards my perfect stowage solution, an umbrella holder! This has to be one of the most simple modifications on the planet, merely consisting of a 750mm length of 2 inch plastic pipe (I know I'm mixing my units Laughing ) cable tied to the rear of the front legs of the '60' part of the second row seats:

This places my umbrella immediately to hand when the door is opened:

An embellishment of the idea could be to drill a series of holes in the side of the pipe to allow a wet umbrella to dry out but I only thought of that after I'd fitted it, so it'll do for now.

If you left it open in the middle, it would air dry, and a lower mounting would allow it to drip onto the rubber mat rather than uncovered metal:

I like this set up! How will they be if the seats are folded forward? What size are the pipes and how are they secured? Difficult to re-holster?

I have a bunch of large umbrellas under the second row and they would thud around during sharp turns. This set up makes things look more "official" plus 2 large umbrellas should be good enough for about 5 people anyways, right? Is there a way to install a 3rd umbrella? I'm realizing that I use one of the large umbrellas just for myself. I guess I can do another holster set up where LRA put his kit Thumbs Up

Soundproofing Part 3 - Drivers Door
I've had a few niggling issues with the drivers door and yesterday was the day to sort them out.

Firstly was an alignment issue. I'd noticed that when driving over particularly rough roads or speed bumps, there was a thumping noise from somewhere near the top of the A pillar. After a bit of trial and error, I discovered that the top edge of door was hitting the underside of the roof gutter as it flexed, as the gap was very small. I loosened off the hinge bolts into the bulkhead and with a bit of pulling and percussive persuasion, moved it down and back slightly, which seems to have cured the problem.

The second job was an annoying rattle inside the door. I whipped off the door card (no clips broken - yay) and peeled back the water shedder to reveal the innards. This was done by carefully slicing the mastic with a sharp knife whilst pulling the shedder away from the frame and means that it goes back on very easily.

The problem was immediately obvious:

The white plastic clip highlighted above had come unstuck and the rod that it's supposed to guide was rattling against the inside face of the window regulator panel that it runs along. I cleaned up the clip and applied new double-sided foam tape and it was good as new. A nice, easy fix Smile

Whilst I had the door apart, it made sense to install some sound proofing. After a bit of a clean up and degrease, I first added a layer of Silentcoat to the lower half of the door. Without a lot more dismantling, it's quite difficult to gain access to the top half but I used the same approach on new doors for my old 90 and it worked well:

I also applied some smaller offcuts to parts of the regulator panel for good measure.

Next, a layer of self-adhesive foam was added. It looks a bit scrappy as I didn't have much left in stock and had to cut and shut some smaller pieces but the good thing about this sort of stuff is that it doesn't have to look pretty to work:

With the door card back in place, the door now closes with a satisfying thunk instead of the tinny rattle that I've put up with for two years, which is nice Very Happy

As a series of tasks, they all went surprisingly well, with one small exception. Whilst installing the Silentcoat with a seam roller, I caught my thumb on the window regulator gear wheel and ended up dripping a fair amount of blood all over the place:
