New Defender Wish List
If you could stipulate to JLR just ONE driver aid you would like to see on the new Defender, what would it be?

My choice would be manually selectable locking differentials, centre, front and rear. (Similar to the G Wagen)

1) a new vehicle that hasn’t started to corrode and rust before it has even left the dealers forecourt.
2) a product that has been built to a quality standard that is in-line with the asking price and comparable to vehicles of the same price point being sold by other manufacturers.
3) a dealer network who are knowledgable regarding said product and don’t believe that customer service is a dirty word.

That would be a start and should cover: poor build quality, leaks, rattles, antiquated construction methods and lack of product development.

A dry pair of dry trouwers whilst driving..... a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

Locking differentials have long been conspicuously absent. Tom Sheppard notes his frustration about the situation in his book on vehicle expeditions, very worth a read if you don’t have a copy; www.desertwinds.co.uk

Edited link. 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2

Hi Utility Truck. Unfortunately your link is not working - guess it's because you have a closing bracket on the end. Defender 90XS SW

Build quality and consistency are the biggest for me.

If I was doing it, I'd keep the overall dimensions pretty similar. Shrink the wheel arches a little and slightly grow the body in to them. Shorten the engine bay by a few centimetres, extend the wheelbase by a few centimetres, just enough to give a small amount more cab room.
I'd make it easy to add extra switches and things neatly, lots of US pickups have pre-fitted aux switches for example.

Alternatively, a complete rethink. Range extended EV, fully independent suspension with individual wheel motors. Keep it simple but effective. I still want to be able to clean it out with an air compressor, put a pallet in the back, add my own things like an air compressor, fridge and sleeping area.

What I think we'll get is something across between a Disco 2 and a Prado 120, which is no bad thing but not really what I'm after.

I would like the new Defender to have (inter alia):

A proper chassis and modular bolt together body
Live axles with axle and centre lockable torque biasing diffs
The ability to mount equipment such as cherry-pickers, underlifts, etc
Reliability and decent build quality
As few electronic and electrical systems as possible
The ability to hose the inside and outside
Security
3.5 tonne towing capacity on overrun brakes

Some of these things it may have, most it won't.
