Wolf 300tdi Donaldson Air Filter
Hi All

I have just picked up a Donaldson air filter box as fitted in the 300tdi military Wolfs. The filter is a 2 part inner and outer.

I'm sure I read that in typical UK conditions there is no need to use the inner (safety element) filter, only the outer was needed. The inner is only intended for seriously dusty conditions (eg Afghan/Iraq).

Am I right?

I found if you run both the 90 feels restricted and blacks under acceleration.

I just run the main everday and both when off road or messing in water.

I did struggle to find replacement filters too

Thought I'd add this question onto the bottom here rather than a new thread:

I've just fitted a Donaldson filter box as per this thread.

I've used the standard filter mount bracket, and the bands as specified here and in Foxhound's linked thread.

I did though, use these 'bobbins' too, between the new bands and the existing bracket.



However the new filter box is just a bit too high, and rattles against the bonnet. The obvious answer is to remove the bobbin rubber fixings, but presumably that just transfers the vibration somewhere else that maybe wasn't designed for it? I'm thinking it would specifically make the intake pipes vibrate a lot more.

How have others got round this? I did read about someone using 'quickfist' clamps here -made of rubber so would probably provide some damping.

It's only a marginal thing - certainly 5-10 mm would give enough clearance. I wondered if anyone knew what these mountings might be called so I could google for thinner ones?

Hi Donald, from memory (and it was a long time ago) but have a look for exhaust bobbins to suit a classic mini, they were quite thin and I seem to recall they did the trick on something I was mocking up a while back. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Thanks Harry. I'll have a look at those. I also googled something like 'rubber bobbin mounts' and found this:

You can search on specific dimensions, so I'll get out and measure the stock LR ones and see what would fit without fouling the bonnet. Donald
