58 plate Defender with Dim Dip?
I have a 58 plate defender with no headlight leveling control on the dash. The hole is covered by a factory fitted blanking plate. But it does have Dim Dip! Checked LR webb site. It shows all defenders having headlight leveling.
I thought our european friends said it was illegal for the UK to have Dim Dip and that is one of the reasons it stopped being fitted years ago. Anyone know why its not got leveling fitted. I thought it may be because it is classed as a Light Goods.

I thought the headlight levelling used to be an option but became standard in the 2011MY. Russell

Our European masters ruled that it was illegal for the UK government to require that dim-dip was fitted (the UK had introduced legislation requiring the fitment of dip-dip and it was the law which was ruled illegal) but it is still permitted if you or the manufacturer want to.

Defenders which are "commercial" used to have dim dip and no levelling (for example my 2007 'County' spec DC did), whilst those which were not considered commercial (eg the XS models) had headlight levelling and no dim-dip.

The good news if you have dim dip is that it is very easy to disable it if you wish, by unplugging the resistor pack located in the OS front wing (although it is quite hard to find).

It is also possible albeit probably unnecessary to retrofit levelling motors since the wiring harness is the same whether or not you have them. The suspension on a 'commercial' Defender renders their fitment unnecessary however.

Dim Dip
Thank's for the reply's. I am going to use the redundant wiring that is in the harness for the headlight leveling and the dim dip circuit to fit Daylight Running Lights.
As the more mature drivers in my area seem to enjoy pullind out infront of my black Defender!
